Default Available dead space for wiring

Hi all, sorry if this belongs in ICE but I figure there's some intersect between the two.

I'm going to get a new stereo installed soon with an external connection wire (eg - like for an iPod), and while I know traditionally people stuff that into the glove box, I'd actually like to see if there's space/ability to run the wire under the shifter and into the console.

Additionally, I've got one of these and I'm intending to mount it onto the dash by the window over the vent.

Are there any suggestions on where I can drill holes to run the wire from the OBD2 connector up through the dash, behind the gauges?

I'd post illustrative pictures but I don't have enough light in my garage to do it right now.

You should just be able to push it up there, its quite hollow back there.

i have an auxiliary connection coming down from behind the AC controls so my zune sits in the little dip between the center console and the dash

Same thing I did, behind the AC controls. Got some bloody knuckles doing it - it's tight in there.

Yeah, but where would the wire go in and come out if I didn't drill holes?

I kinda figured it was rather empty back there. I just don't know how far back the gauge box goes.

I have a cruise kit I'm going to try to install myself, and I want to fix the center vent knob, so it looks like I may have to pull out the dash anyway. I guess I'll see firsthand how that goes.

As far as the console goes, I had considered doing it that way (in the little space behind the cigarette lighter under the A/C shelf), but after trying it with my PSP, it won't always stay in the compartment during a turn, and I'm just not crazy about having the wire there to begin with.

When I got the car, it already had this thing inserted in the console:

Basically, my hope is to be able to use that rear compartment to hold the iPod or whatever I wind up using, so the wire would have to go under the shifter and I assume behind the A/C.

I'll try to post some pictures later to identify what exactly I mean. My garage is kinda dark and didn't have sufficient lighting to take pictures last night. I'll try to do it today.
