I was wondering if there is any possible way to reset your oil service interval light on the dash without using the BMW or aftermarket reset tool. (i.e. disconnecting the battery or pulling main fuse). but if its not possible to do so, would it be ok to change the oil/filter and take it to my mechanic to reset in a day or two to have it reset? thanks in advance. | | | 06-24-2006, 10:54 PM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Greenville, SC Posts: 9,356 | __________________ ...steven BMW CCA #146825 1996 BMW 328ti • 2003 MINI Cooper S • 2016 M235i www.bmwcca.org | | | 06-24-2006, 11:08 PM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2006 Location: Southern California Posts: 456 | wow... | | | 06-27-2006, 01:10 AM | #4 | Member Join Date: Jun 2006 Location: Ithaca, NY Posts: 77 | well i went ahead and changed the oil successfully. actually one of the easier oil changes i've done. didnt reset the light, but im calling my mechanic tomorrow to see if i can stop by to have it reset. then its off to ebay for some bidding on the peake reset tool for future maintenance . | | | 06-27-2006, 05:40 AM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: Dec 2005 Location: Plano Texas Posts: 206 | __________________ K&N Cone Filter with Heat Shield, Racing Dynamics Strut bar, Blisten yellow sport suspension, Clears all around, Angel eyes, Dinan Engine Chip, Infinity BassLink 10" Sub, Lightweight Aluminum Flywheel | | | 06-28-2006, 01:17 AM | #6 | Member Join Date: Jun 2006 Location: Ithaca, NY Posts: 77 | thanks for the tip. a paper clip is quite a bit cheaper. | | | 06-28-2006, 01:53 AM | #7 | TRETEN IRGENDEINES ESELS Join Date: Aug 2004 Location: Rhode Island Posts: 3,687 | Quote: Originally Posted by upstatenybimmer well i went ahead and changed the oil successfully. actually one of the easier oil changes i've done. didnt reset the light, but im calling my mechanic tomorrow to see if i can stop by to have it reset. then its off to ebay for some bidding on the peake reset tool for future maintenance . | Or become a site supporter for $10 and you can rent the tools from the site. __________________ 98 Avus Blue 318 ti Active clear outs all around, stealth turning signals, blue led interior lights, 35% tinted windows,K&N air filter, 12" Kenwood Sub, MTX Thunder Amp,Alpine cd changer, Leatherz Armrest,ACS Pedals/Handbrake/FloorMats & Vitesse Tuning Carbon Fiber B-Pillars/CF Spark Plug Cover, New 16" MSW Typer 14 Rims on Goodyear Triple Treds www.myspace.com/avusblueti | | | 10-27-2007, 08:08 AM | #8 | Senior Member Join Date: Oct 2007 Location: SFO,Ca. Hold it there for about 3 seconds for the oil service lights and 12 for the inspection lights. http://www.unofficialbmw.com/e36/ele...ce_lights.html __________________ 4 MORE YEARS BABY!!! | | | 10-28-2007, 05:44 AM | #10 | Senior Member Join Date: Oct 2007 Location: SFO,Ca.
