It also says that the 3.0CSL art car was raced at Le Mans. I think they are awesome, not many car companies give away the rarest of their cars for art. __________________ ~Dave~ 98 328ti Morea Grun slicktop 11 128i space gray slicktop 13 JGC WK2 Deep Cherry Search | RealOEM | | | 11-26-2008, 11:47 PM | #6 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2007 Location: asdfasdf Posts: 10,002 | I think they're kinda cool, I can see how some people might think of it as a waste of a car but that doesn't really bother me, lol, am I the only who noticed that they labeled the E36 as an E46? | | | 11-27-2008, 12:12 AM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: Oct 2008 Location: Gilbert Posts: 621 | i saw that too but didnt think much of it.. they are artist not car enthusists __________________ *IF ITS FAST AND CHEAP, ITS NOT RELIABLE* *IF ITS CHEAP AND RELIABLE, ITS NOT FAST* *IF ITS FAST AND RELIABLE, ITS NOT CHEAP* | | | 11-27-2008, 05:56 AM | #8 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2007 Location: norcal - 94590 Posts: 3,186 | Ok kids, time for an adult opinion. I have loved, repeat, loved the BMW art cars since day 1. Yes, I have seen them introduced, and there is nothing like it. Yes, the Warhol was raced. Yes, the Lichtenstein was raced. (I have always dreamed of re-creating that car.) But that is besides the point. There is no denying the agressive grace of a BMW in it's natural state, but seeing the transformation of that original design through the eyes of another artist, well, that is truly eye opening. Rant: I debated with my father (an artist in his own right) the "truth" behind Lichtenstein's "reflection of the surroundings" as too literal. But that was his (lichtensten's) forte. Translating the literal into a cartoon (or Sunday funnies) version of itself, that could allow the layperson to recognize the irony of what he take for granted. /Rant Stop for one moment before you say "yuck, that's ugly"... What are we all doing to our cars? How many of them are 100% original? Basically none... We are all doing our own impersonation of one of those cars... Add a little change here, take away a little bit there... Art is art. Saying that one of those cars is "ugly" or "puke worthy" is insulting yourself. They're art, don't think of them as BMW's, it's not like there's a ton of them driving around. In fact, I doubt any of them see regular use. They belong in museums. That being said and the fact that I'm an artist, I've actually considered making my car an art car. There's a guy on BF.c that recently turned his 8 series into one, but he copied the Sandro Chia painting. I'd like to do my own version, something unique. The car has to be bad ass to pull it off though __________________ 4 MORE YEARS BABY!!! | | | 11-27-2008, 07:08 AM | #10 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2008 Location: Austin Posts: 3,059 | Quote: Originally Posted by cooljess76 The car has to be bad ass to pull it off though | Of course! __________________ Come get a ti-shirt Quote: From the e30 M3, evolved the e36.
