I was looking at some diagrams on realoem.com, and the diagram for the auto tranny shows a cooler somewhere in the front of the car. I've been under my car several times, and I've never seen anything like that. Up front I have an engine coolant radiator, and my AC condensor, but no tranny oil cooler. Anybody help me on this? Thanks Maher __________________ 97 sport | | | 05-26-2006, 10:15 PM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2005 Location: St. Louis Posts: 138 | . __________________ 97 sport | | | 06-10-2006, 12:42 AM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2005 Location: Richmond Hill, GA Posts: 1,231 | its in front of the radiator. you should see two lines ther connect into it. | | | 06-10-2006, 01:10 AM | #4 | TRETEN IRGENDEINES ESELS Join Date: Aug 2004 Location: Rhode Island Posts: 3,687 | Quote: Originally Posted by angel318ti its in front of the radiator. you should see two lines ther connect into it. | That is the power steering reservoir, not the tranny fluid. Although the fluid is the same but thats just for the power steering. __________________ 98 Avus Blue 318 ti Active clear outs all around, stealth turning signals, blue led interior lights, 35% tinted windows,K&N air filter, 12" Kenwood Sub, MTX Thunder Amp,Alpine cd changer, Leatherz Armrest,ACS Pedals/Handbrake/FloorMats & Vitesse Tuning Carbon Fiber B-Pillars/CF Spark Plug Cover, New 16" MSW Typer 14 Rims on Goodyear Triple Treds www.myspace.com/avusblueti | | | 06-10-2006, 01:13 AM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2005 Location: Richmond Hill, GA Posts: 1,231 | are you sure cause when I dropped the tranny on mine the lines went directly to the tranny not the PSP. I think you might be confussed. | | | 06-10-2006, 03:16 AM | #6 | TRETEN IRGENDEINES ESELS Join Date: Aug 2004 Location: Rhode Island Posts: 3,687 | I've filled that reservoir up twice because i have a small leak in the lines. It's right under the airbox to the left about 12 inches down. I'm 100% positive it's the PS fluid. My bentley manual also says it is ps. The top of it says ATF,i've put in Mobil 1 dexron 3,it's a pink/reddish fluid. __________________ 98 Avus Blue 318 ti Active clear outs all around, stealth turning signals, blue led interior lights, 35% tinted windows,K&N air filter, 12" Kenwood Sub, MTX Thunder Amp,Alpine cd changer, Leatherz Armrest,ACS Pedals/Handbrake/FloorMats & Vitesse Tuning Carbon Fiber B-Pillars/CF Spark Plug Cover, New 16" MSW Typer 14 Rims on Goodyear Triple Treds www.myspace.com/avusblueti | | | 06-10-2006, 03:23 AM | #7 | aka Stabby Join Date: Nov 2004 Location: Mead, CO Posts: 5,336 | i think you guys may be talking about two different things. a transmission cooler would look like a small radiator and, according to angel, sits in front of the radiator. the power steering fluid reservoir sits behind the radiator and is just a cylindrical fluid container (with some rubber tubes coming out the bottom routed to the power steering pump and power steering rack trombone pipe). __________________ 1996 318ti, California package, 267k miles current mods: bilstein sports, bavauto springs, e30 m3 LCABs, solid metal ball joints, bavauto RSMs w/reinforcements, e30 3.73 LSD & halfshafts, supersprint cat-back exhaust, turner rear sway bar reinforcements, IE poly subframe & RTABs + camber/toe kits, powdercoated e36 32x front calipers, sport mirrors, H&R 28mmF/19mmR sway bars, x-brace, auto solutions SSK w/poly bushing upgrade, BMW CD43 head unit, DICE HD Radio w/iPod integration and "stealth" HD antenna, staggered style 68s, orange electronic TPMS, leather arm rest, JT Designs metal undertray acquired and awaiting install: heated seat kit, cali top switch relo, lumbar support kit, park distance control kit, heated washer nozzle kit, m-coupe rear subframe, trailing arms, differential, and halfshafts, m-coupe front/rear brakes with master cylinder, under hood light kit, mud flaps, rear sun blind, auto-dimming rear view mirror, tilt steering wheel retrofit, apexcone 5000K HIDs with 55W ballasts 2002 X5 4.4 Sport Package, 53.5k miles Current Mods: e46 m3 steering wheel | | | 06-16-2006, 05:09 AM | #8 | Senior Member Join Date: Oct 2004 Location: Tennessee Posts: 523 | It is it sits on the right side of the radiator if you are facing the car. I just replaced my radiator yesterday so I am sure. __________________ | | | 06-16-2006, 05:42 PM | #9 | Senior Member Join Date: Dec 2005 Location: Asheville NC Posts: 669 | the round thing that takes ATF sitting between the engine and transmission is your power steering fluid resivoir. There is an oil cooler that sits infront of the radiator according to realoem.com http://www.realoem.com/bmw/diagrams/o/b/181.png | | | 06-16-2006, 06:25 PM | #10 | Senior Member Join Date: Jan 2006 Location: Cincinnati Posts: 890 | If you want to get technical, the trans cooler is in between the condenser and the radiator. __________________ SOLD!!! 1999 332ti //M Sport Titanium Silver M3 S52 3.2 I-6 Engine, M3 Clutch w/ ti Getrag Trans, Z3 3.15 LSD medium case diff and half shafts, OEM Hatch Spoiler, Eurosport HP Underdrive Pulleys, FDM, 17" DS1 rims, M3 Front Struts & Springs, M3 Instrument Cluster, 3-spoke //M steering wheel with tri-color stitching, SSK, CCFL Angels in Depo projectors with 5k HIDs | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
