Well.

Learn something new everyday. Hey if Bilstein recommends it then go for it. Especially if you are retaining the stock springs.

Dear all,

I have just installed the front "sport" monotubes (called B8 here, in France) on my 323ti compact with Mtech suspensions.

Whhaaaaw, they are just perfect. Very controlled as very comfortable. Actually, I didn't think a as well controlled suspension could be as comfortable. Very happy....

The ride height didn't increase at all (perhaps 1mm but no more).

Some comments:

-Even if the "sport" (B8) are shorter than the "Hd" (B6), they are still 50mm longer than the Oem sachs that comes with "sport mtech" suspension. Their stroke is 150mm compared to 100mm for the sachs. Thus, I don't understand how can the "hd" could be longer...

-On the OEM sport suspension, the bumpstop is 75mm long. The car rest only at 28mm from the bumpstop in static equilibrium (that are my own measurements).

-The internal bumpstop of the bilsteins is 85mm long. This would have made the car at only 10 to 15mm from the bilstein bumpstops. To avoid this, I have shorten the bumpstops about 15mm. Thus, I have the same stroke as OEM before hitting the bumpstops (even 2 or 3mm more...). Some people have debate concerning these bumpstops, especially for lowered M3. (see http://brazeauracing.com/bumpstops.htm). What is sure is that people with short springs ride on the bilstein bumpstops.....that could explain why they are sometime rated as "harsh"

My two cents

Pretty close to getting a set of the Bilstein sport shocks and NOT springs to lower the car. I have a plain ol base setup (for now hopefully). After reading this thread I thought I'd see if anyone has sports with stock springs. I am trying to avoid lowering the car. If need be to make these shocks worth it there are a full set of eibach sportline or HR sports available on local craigslist. Thanks.

HD's can be as well. The only difference between Sports and HD's is the amount of travel. They have the exact same dampening rates.

I say Sports
