I think I want an electronic one so I don't have to run a hose through my firewall. Any good advice regarding that? My budget isn't huge and I found one for ~$60 that looks nice. It goes to 30 psi though and I wouldn't want any more than 20 psi max. Also, where in the firewall should I run the cable? | | | 07-24-2009, 02:29 PM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Dec 2007 Location: Gulfport, Florida Posts: 3,208 | Quote: Originally Posted by pnosker I'm about ready to buy a boost gauge. That will put you right under the brake cylinder. Don't forget to seal it with silicone. | | | 07-24-2009, 04:38 PM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2007 Location: Rocky Hill, CT Posts: 1,065 | Pat, what brand are you looking at? If it's cyberdyne, do NOT buy it, they're junk. I have one for my water temp and it was nice for the first month, but now I can barely read it, and they won't warranty anything __________________ 1995 318TI base. 95 2.5L from 325IS. The boost gauge reads read slow and the face on mine melted on a long trip. The glow shift is good. I like the Prosport prosportgauges.com I think. They have the blue digital with wrap around leds and their sample rate is super quick. Not too expensive. It's a tiny blurry compared to the glowshift | | | 07-24-2009, 08:17 PM | #6 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2005 Location: çî†ÿ øf åNgëL§, CA Posts: 5,314 | Defi | | | 07-28-2009, 04:10 AM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2006 Location: Central NJ Posts: 2,440 | So I got a Prosport gauge as per John's suggestion (The White/Amber tinted electronically controlled). It's awesome. It looks the same as the OEM lighting so no blinding at night and it seems very accurate. I didn't realize how little boost these DASCs produce when not at WOT. It seems to hit 10 psi only between 3300-6800 rpm but anything below 3300 is at partial boost. During partial throttle, it might still be reading vacuum which is crazy. With cruise control driving on a flat road I read between 15-18 psi Vac. Idle is 19-20 psi vac. | | | 07-28-2009, 08:46 PM | #8 | Senior Member Join Date: Dec 2007 Location: Gulfport, Florida Posts: 3,208 | Quote: Originally Posted by pnosker So I got a Prosport gauge as per John's suggestion (The White/Amber tinted electronically controlled). Need a smaller pulley to get to the yellow leds | | | 07-28-2009, 08:49 PM | #9 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2006 Location: Central NJ Posts: 2,440 | I actually got the electronic standard gauge (not digital) because I like oem-look lighting. I had a blue sirius unit that blinded me at night so from then on got all amber stuff. I wish it would go over 10!! . It can go up to 30 so it's only using a little bit of its potential ha... Water/meth injection comes tomorrow and 3.2" pulley should be here in 2-3 days! By the end of this week I should be putting down some good power and then it's off to the dyno for me. | | | 07-29-2009, 03:36 PM | #10 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2007 Location: MA Posts: 163 | Quote: Originally Posted by pnosker I actually got the electronic standard gauge (not digital) because I like oem-look lighting. Are you going to inject before or after the SC? What are your thoughts about the idea that pre- supercharger injecting ruins the supercharger 'coating' and makes you lose boost and blah blah blah? I'd love to meth inject but I do not want to have to have 4 nozzles tapped into the manifold. | | | 07-29-2009, 03:42 PM | #11 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2006 Location: Central NJ Posts: 2,440 | Whoops-- just filled. I'm going to inject before with 1 nozzle (each nozzle is good to at least 500 hp I believe). I'm going to try to inject in the rubber boot between the ASC and the TB. If that doesn't work, I have to tap with a 1/8 NPT tap in the elbow. Dusten used Kleenstrip Denatured alcohol which has methyl ethyl ketone in it (a very very strong solvent). It wasn't pure meth/water. It was mostly ethanol/water with a little methanol and a little MEK. I don't think I will have any issue with injection. Both John and Coleco ran water/meth or washer fluid and after 30k had no issues. | | | 07-29-2009, 03:48 PM | #12 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2007 Location: MA Posts: 163 | Quote: Originally Posted by pnosker Whoops-- just filled. I saw some heated postings arguing both sides, with no conclusions either way. I guess I'm leaning towards that it is safe, if using meth/water/washer fluid. Thanks for the details | | | 07-29-2009, 03:56 PM | #13 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2006 Location: Central NJ Posts: 2,440 | Well a rebuild is around $500, so obviously it's not cheap, but injecting past the blower creates an uneven spray which gives more meth to some cylinders than others. Injecting before the blower allows the blower to mix and distribute it equally. I searched for a week about this (all over nissan and pontiac forums) and they all seemed to indicate injecting with washer fluid is safe but kleen-strip denatured alcohol isn't. I'll let you know how it goes. I'll definitely report if my boost goes down. | | | 07-29-2009, 10:28 PM | #14 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2006 Location: Central NJ Posts: 2,440 | Damn... I installed my water/meth injection system (Coolingmist basic) tapped into the washer fluid (there's like nowhere to put the pump! it's sitting on my MAF right now in my aluminum heatshield). I can't figure out how to set the boost properly. I can turn it 25 times at least and can't find a min/max screw position. All I want is to set to 5 or 6 psi!! | | | 07-29-2009, 11:41 PM | #15 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2007 Location: MA Posts: 163 | | | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
