FS: M44 needs work + some extra parts hey guys, i'm selling my old M44 out of my 96 318ti. here's what happened. Last July, the engine overheated. I had to try and drive it somewhere where I could get it picked up. So I bent the head on it. I removed the head, had it machined. Put everything back together with a new head gasket & valve cover gasket. The machine shop told me that it needed a valve job at the time. When I was putting it back together, I didn't have a cam-locking tool, and the cams pulled apart a very little bit. As I put the timing chain back on, the cams weren't in the right position. Also, i think the engine might have moved out of TDC. Long story short, I fired the engine up and must have bent the valves. I towed the car to a shop and they told me that the engine doesn't have compression. From what I'm gathering, all it needs is new valves and a timing reset. The engine is fully pulled off and ready to go. The car was a manual initially, but it has an automatic flywheel on it (the new engine i bought came from a auto Z3). The engine also has new spark plugs but they'll need cleaning as well. The engine had 92k on it. I also have the lower intake manifold, the spark plug wires, and the engine wire box (from the Z3, has the wires going to the starter....etc.) This would be a good project for someone. Let me know if anyone is interested! |
