Default 97 318ti; where's the dipstick?

babysitter's car, so i don't see it but once in awhile. she said she was leaking oil, so i looked to check it and only saw a red dipstick at the back of the engine compartment, which i thought red was generally the trans.

another guy and i looked for awhile and couldn't find another dipstick, so my question is: was that the oil dipstick (the red one) or is there another? she said it's leaving a signifigant puddle, though i have yet to get to see it to even know for sure if it's the oil

thanks guys

edit: i feel stupid for asking, but i remember seeing whree bmw eliminated or was going to eliminate the dipsticks for the engine oil and you had to go to a dealership where they drained and measured it for you.

These cars do have dip sticks.
I believe it is on the left side (driver's side).

If the dipstick was missing it would be idling poorly and probably throw a CEL.

so it is the one with the red handle? is there a trans dipstick, or is it sealed (i've read they are sealed and serviced only by a bmw technician)
