Default Removing Front Seats

Dose anyone have any tips on removing front seats. I need to paint my tracks before I get my new seats. How do I get the seat off the tracks?

First off, be sure to disconnect the battery.

My seats are manual so unless there is a battery for something other then the seats in there Im fine. Do the seats just slide off the tracks or is there some kind of release?

You will throw a SRS light if you should turn your key on.

The seatbelts and passenger seat mat are part of the SRS.
If you should happen to turn the car on while any of those plugs are disconnected you will cause a SRS fault and will need the light reset.

Edit: Also look at http://www.318ti.org/forum/showthread.php?t=4664
Found that by looking at the similar threads section at the bottom of the page.

Wow. I swapped by seats (from leather to cloth) and had no idea about the SRS Light.

As for the seats, just make sure you have a decent set of metric size sockets (or wrenches)

Wow, when did that get there? Ive never seen that before. Ok so other then disconnecting the battery is there anything else? Basically what I need to know is if there is a release to get the seat off the tracks or if they just slide off.

I threw my SRS light by taking the seat out I was doing a window regulator then oiling a squeaky seat at the same time. I had the key on to move the window up and down. Then when I was finished, I proceeded to take the seat out. I never turned the key off....

There's a couple electrical connections to unclip, then there are 4 big nuts that hold the seat in. The seat will lift out then. If you want to actually pull the tracks off, they will be attached to the seat after you pull it out. I don't know how they are attached to the seat though.

Well that is helpful but they dont tell you how to get the seats off the tracks either. Does anyone know how to get the seats off the tracks? Is it even possible?

The seats and tracks are all mounted into the car as one unit. I'm sure you can seperate the upper seat from the track and lower seat portion.

If you are getting new seats they will have new tracks on them if they are OEM seats.. If they are aftermarket seats you will have to buy aftermarket rails.

What exactly are you buying that you will be keeping your current tracks but getting new seats?

Im buying new stock seats from a member here and Im planning on repainting the tracks when I get them since there is a pretty good chance that they are pretty rough. Mine are all rusted and scratched so its safe to assume the ones Im getting wont be perfect either.
