Okay, so...

I had originally asked questions about the O2 sensor. Everyone said to wait until it went out to replace. Well, last night at 106,000 miles, my check engine light came on. Car is otherwise running perfectly; mileage is still in the 30-35 range.

I'm in rural Southeastern Ohio. There's no BMW dealer or repair shop for like 70 miles. I would have to assume that the Check Engine light is just telling me about the O2 sensor.

1) Should I have a dealer read the fault code (hassle) just to confirm this or go on a hunch that it's the O2?

2) If I replace the O2 sensor, would the Check Engine light go off on it's own or does it need to be reset?

3) I think I'll try to get away with not using the O2-specific tool. This car has been in Texas almost it's entire life, so corrosion is at a minimum. Will I regret this decision? If it's stubborn, I guess I'll just buy the tool.

THANKS!
