Default ABS + Buzzing Sound

I've got what sounds like a buzzing sound coming from the front left side of the car (my cars right hand steering) and vibration in the brake pedal when I slow down to stop, the sound and vibration goes away when the ABS light comes up.

Anyone know what it is. By the way, my rotors and brakes need changing, is it due to these or is there something else wrong.

Might want to check the ABS relay. Mine was "stuck" once. It was very weird.....

I was pulling out of the parking lot one snowy winter morning. I hit the brakes hard, at a slow speed, to test how slippery it was. The ABS came on, with the ABS light, but once I stopped, the ABS motor kept running! I tried to shut the car off to get the ABS motor to stop running, but it still ran after the car was shut off. My plan was to pull an ABS fuse or relay, but once I literally touched the ABS relay, the ABS motor stopped running.

Not quite the same situation you describe, but maybe it helps??

My light came on and stays on now. Could the relay be the potential issue? Where's it at and how easy is it to replace it?

Where's the ABS motor located?

Hi Guys,

I'm new to the forum and have just found this thread as i have the exact same problem, both my ABS and ASC lights are on and there is a continuous buzzing from the ABS/ASC pump that is below the battery. I've pulled the fuse for now so as to not flatten the battery but chief suspect to causing the problem is the ABS Relays.

Can someone please tell me where the ABS relays are? It is a 1998 318tI and everywhere i've looked says they are in the fuse box but they are definitely not there on mine. Someone also suggested under the steering wheel or behind the glovebox so i've had a look there but can't find anything.

If anyone can please help it would be most appreciated.

I'm from the UK by the way so the car is RHD.

Cheers
Ben

Hmm, yep on the American cars it's in the main fuse box. It's in the rearward driver's side corner of the engine bay. But with the RHD cars, I'm not sure. If it's not in that main fuse box, there's got to be another box somewhere in the car. Here are some pics.

Fuse/Relay box, upper right corner. With that silver sticker on it.

Here's what they look like. You can see two of the relays even have "ABS" stamped on the. If you can get it to buzz, you should be able to feel which one is running, just by touching it lightly.

Hi Cirrus

Thanks for the reply. It seems the UK cars are quite different to US one's, i just have a void where you have the red and grey relays. As an aside my battery is right next to my fuse box and my brake reservoir is on the opposite side of the engine bay to yours.

I have made a bit of a breakthrough though, underneath the Passenger Side (Drivers Side in US) Carpet there is a large black box with abs stamped on it, it has the part number 61131393781 on it but unfortunately realoem doesn't recognise that part number so it looks like i'll have to give BMW a call.
