Default clean engine again

I have been trying to get some clear cut answers on how to get the valve cover and manifold/tb all nice and shiny .. but the IM and Valvecover is magnisium and it seems like the best idea i have heard is using sandpaper/metal brush .. which i fear both of will scratch / mutilate the surface
