Unhappy Noisy Idle Regulating Valve? Bad?

While fixing my wife's car this weekend (Bad CPS) I noticed a buzzing noise from the engine bay. After sticking my ear next to hot engines and moving parts I found that it was coming from throttle body area, namely the Idle Regulating Valve. Anyone else notice this? Is this bad?

Here is a pict for reference:

Thanks.

That's normal. Even with the engine off, but power on, it should buzz; otherwise its not working. (according to Bentley and Chilton manuals)

You can try cleaning the idle control valve with some sort of carbon cleaner, or replacing the hoses (there should be 2, $20 total). Replacing the valve itself will be last thing i wanna do as it is kinda expensive (about 200 bucks)

I think mine is going. My ti isn't idling very well right now, and the buzzing noise is really loud.

I need to clean it out first I guess.

I have a sound that is not buzzing more like bells rotating very fast, but only when my idle is under 1500rpms', but once I add power the sound goes away. When I had my smog check done, THANK GOODNESS it passed, but the service guy told me that my computer was monitoring all four cylinders! for a missfire. He told me watch for the check engine light. Sure as heck, 528miles later the check engine light came on. So I took it to a service guy i know (trying to get a hook up!) He told me that it was an error 74, and that he can not find the vaccum leak!

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Mothman

I'd recommend getting some new upper intake manifold gaskets, about $2 each, need 2, and remove and clean intake. Planning on doin it soon because there is this one vacuum line-with a braided sheath-that insert below the ICV and I can't see where it goes to. Take off the manifold and inspect the hoses for your best bet. Also, I just got random misfire readings on my car too! Totally random, cylinders 2 & 4, I'd clear the code and checking it everyday, it'd only occur once every week or 2. Replaced spark plug wires, no more codes.
