Default Stock TI vs Stock GtI

What do you guys think...
Stock TI vs Stock GtI on the highway.

Last week my buddy and i were on a late night cruise and saw a kid he works with. We pull over and shoot the ****,his buddys were talking about his car (04 or 05 GTI)so i said anyone that drives a VW is a women that there meant for girls. All his buddy's start laughin and were like thank you that was a good one. So he got all pissed off and was like i'll take ur 318 any day. So i laughed and said bring it on. So he wants a piece of my car and my buddys 01 mustang gt. No brainer there the gt will kill both of us. But back to the top what do you guys think about Stock TI vs Stock GtI on the highway?

Well, see, out here in LA, the fastest car on the freeway, doesn't win, the craziest mo-fo wins. Casue of all the traffic you have to avoid. Find out what the top govern'd speed of that GTI is, and I think the 318ti shuts off around 120, so if your not doing a quarter mile, and his top speed is faster than yours, you'll lose, personally, if his volks is stock, I think you should be able to get him.

VR6 GTI or 1.8T? Manual?

My guess from stomping on my '99 VR6 Passat auto at highway speed is there is still a ton of torque and it just pulls. I think the GTI would be 2 car lengths ahead by 100.

I think it's the VR6,either way 200hp for vr6 and 180hp for 1.8t.
I don't care if i loose,i'm expecting to loose but i'm going to give him a good run on the hghy.

You know what tho, at the end of the day, no matter who wins the race (Volks/TI)... the TI looks 10x better, and if you bought it used, you paid a lot less.

I bet you miss the snow and cold a lot huh?

The Ti is does great around town where I know the roads and where snow piles up, etc. Then again I threw 100 lbs of rock salt back there and put on blizzaks every fall. When these wear out I think I'll switch to something sportier. Never been stuck but you sure can feel a difference on snow at speed. We take the Passat on any long trips. That's been a surprisingly reliable and great car for us too.

Well, I hate to say it, but the GTI will win hands down, even in 2.0L four option (115hp and 125 lbft of torque at 3750 RPMs). Their torque curve comes way early, making it seem faster than our 133 lbft at 4750rpms.
I Used to drive VW/Audi products and got frustrated with electrical problems, but they are VERY easy to perform go-fast modifications. The difference is their engine lay-out is undersquare pistons (longer strokes and smaller bore) vs oversquare (short strokes and wider bore). "Most" times undersquare engines have a nicer torque than oversquare engines.
For example, my previous AUDI 80, 2.3L Inline five produces 130 hp, but 140 lbft of torque at 4750, but 80% of it starts at 3000rpms....go figure. VW and Audis have very tall engines because of this lay-out.

Well it never happend. The kid backed out. All week long he was sending me texts on how he's gonna kill me etc etc etc.. A couple of hours b4 we were supposed to meet my friend calls me and tells me he can't do it tonight cause he's going out drinking. I told him he was a pussy and he should stick to the wine coolers cause thats what women drink and he got all pissed off. So i guess it's rescheduled for next weekend. By then i should have my stage 4 weight reduction done................

Tyler,
You don't stand a chance. I race an 02 turbo S beelte on a weekly basis. His 1.8T is chipped and we are dead even up to 80mph, then he creeps ahead. If a 3300 lb beetle can beat me with my DASC, then I don't think your NA Ti will keep up.

Challenge him to a drifting or donut contest, then LAUGH!!!!!

If you read my prev posts i said i expect to loose,i know i'll keep up with him on the highway guaranteed. I've raced integras b4 on the highway obviously not hyped out cause he couldn't pass me and i know that car could blow me away. I gave my buddy's 92 or 93 acura vigor(5cyl) a hell of a run in auto stick mode. I know the limits of my car he doesn't he's afraid to beat on it or just drive it fast. From a dead stop the gti will blow me away but on the highway i don't think i'll be that far behind.

before buying my '99 ti M, i test drove an '03 gti vr6.
the bimmer is a nicer car hands down, but the gti---->let me just say i had visions of being on Fox's craziest car chases! merging from the on ramp onto the highway while test driving, i looked down and was going 90. the salesman quips "6speed manual, you've got 3 more to go" it was then that i knew there was no way i could own that car.

GTI easily takes the win. No competition.
