Default WTB M44

I may need an M44 for my 96 ti with 70K.

Overheated and now I have no compression, its currently at the shop for a look see.

Maybe I'll get lucky and just need a head but a complete engine swap may be just as cost effective.

Thanks

Who's doing the work? When I was living in NoVa, I liked to use RRT or Curry's. Best of luck I'm sure there is a complete M44 in the area but then again there are plenty of M/S5X variants in the Metro area.

Cjeck BFc Mid Atlantic, there was a nice S50 for sale that was wicked cheap, about 2 weeks ago.

I have a complete M44... not 100% sure I want to sell yet, but I'll discuss it with dad. It's got at least 190 psi compression in each cylinder.

Default M44

M-technik-3

I have the car at "Worthingtons" in Hagerstown, They sepcialize in BMW work, seem like pretty good guys.

pnosker

If you want to let go of it give me a few details. I'm still waiting to see what the shop guys tell me.

----------------------------------------------

I hope beyond hope it just needs a head gasket.
I think it will need a head completely
I pray I don't need an entire motor but may.

A BMW dealer tech suggested the entire motor swap due to heat can cause cylinder block problems later down the road.

Anyone else can chime in with advise also

Thanks.

Well, of it was mine I would pull the head intially after doing a leak down test to semi determine what I was working with.

I would also inspect for damage else where while head was off.

Default Started the work

Well the head is off and is shot. There is a hole beside one of the exhaust valves. (never seen that before)

The shop currently has liquid in the cylinders to see if any passes by the rings this weekend. I am a little concerned about the block from the heat but do not have a huge budget.

Obviously I am gonna have to find a head for it. If not the whole D*&% engine.

Now I am wondering if the money I spend will be worth it even though I just bought the car put on a sport front end, new wheels/tires and a complete body restoration with carbon black BMW color.

Its beautiful until you open the hood.

Might want to consider doing a M/S5X with limited supply of hp and tq the M44 gives compared to a 6 cylinder and amount of money some one is gonna want? I would consider that venue as well.

I will say that my Modded M50 E30 gets 30 MPG highway fairly constintly with a low ratio ofa 3.25lsd and with sticky 16's.

Default Gonna rebuild

I am gonna rebuild instead of a swap due to budget. (time for labor)

Now I'm looking for a head at a reasonable price.
