Anyone have emissions testing experience with any of these upgrades? I just had my TI tested here in AZ, and all they did for a 1998 model was plug their computer into the OBD port with the car running. It passed with flying colors...I'm sure due to the original stock software. Before I invest in s/w upgrades, larger injectors and dump the AFPR, I want to make sure I don't have to swap everything back just to pass emissions testing. I sent Nick an email at the address on his website yesterday, but since it's the weekend, don't expect to hear back until Monday at the earliest. Any insights would be greatly appreciated... | | | 12-11-2005, 07:07 AM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2004 Location: Indiana Posts: 256 | Basically all they are checking for is current and stored diagnostic trouble codes (DTC's), so you shouldn't have any trouble. | | | 12-11-2005, 08:21 AM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: Jan 2004 Location: LA & Colo Spgs Posts: 210 | Quote: Originally Posted by TiPerformance Basically all they are checking for is current and stored diagnostic trouble codes (DTC's), so you shouldn't have any trouble. | Very helpful...still interested in other's experiences, too... | | | 12-11-2005, 01:44 PM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Greenville, SC Posts: 9,356 | In Maryland they just plug OBD-II cars in. No dyno or sniff test. I had 5 fault codes active all the time due to the conversion. Nick G wrote the faults out of the software and now I have a working CEL. That's all I needed to pass. __________________ ...steven BMW CCA #146825 1996 BMW 328ti • 2003 MINI Cooper S • 2016 M235i www.bmwcca.org | | | 12-11-2005, 05:20 PM | #5 | doesn't care about you. Who ever released it would be rolling in the cash, and alot of people would be pleased because they could change almost any parameter in the computer. | | | 12-11-2005, 08:23 PM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Greenville, SC Posts: 9,356 | Quote: Originally Posted by TiPerformance I wish they made tuning software for you bmw guys like they do for the GM and Ford crowd. Without the proper equipment you can do more harm then good. __________________ ...steven BMW CCA #146825 1996 BMW 328ti • 2003 MINI Cooper S • 2016 M235i www.bmwcca.org | | | 12-11-2005, 10:35 PM | #8 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2004 Location: Indiana Posts: 256 | Quote: Originally Posted by 1996 328ti Maybe it's good that they don't. Without the proper equipment you can do more harm then good. | As with tuning anything, you can do more harm than good if you have no clue what you are doing. Nick G can not get an exact tune for every 318ti out there, he can get close, but it will not be a "perfect tune". I have seen Grand Am Gt's both the same year with the same mods that reacted to tuning totally differently. When you get into technical stuff such as the computer you just have to educate yourself and start out by making changes in small increments. As for proper equipment DHP, HPtuners, Ls1edit, ect all provide "proper equipment for GM vehicles. They also highly recommend using a wideband o2 sensor. | | | 11-29-2006, 03:42 AM | #9 | Junior Member Join Date: Sep 2006 Location: MD Posts: 20 | Diagnostic Codes Has anyone ever got a 0455 code.
