No way am I taking it apart.. Those things are like 150$ at the dealer plus programming charges. | | | 08-06-2008, 03:24 AM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2007 Location: Elizabeth City, NC Posts: 3,877 | Yeah, I would love to figure that out. The ones I saw on ebay were blank keys with empty fobs, you have to put the "remote" part into it. Not sure how to adapt the e36 fob over to that one, but it would be awesome. __________________ ~Dave~ 98 328ti Morea Grun slicktop 11 128i space gray slicktop 13 JGC WK2 Deep Cherry Search | RealOEM | | | 08-06-2008, 05:47 AM | #6 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2004 Location: state college, pa Posts: 3,431 | Best way of doing this is to check compatibility by referencing the FCC ID. Look up the ID of your current fob, maybe have someone with this key lend theirs then see if they transmit on the same frequency for starters. __________________ I scream, you scream, we all scream for ZOMBIES. | | | 08-06-2008, 09:19 AM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2007 Location: LA, Bellflower, CA Posts: 3,613 | i've seen that the sellers sell it to have it fit for the E36. it has the notch just like the oem key. but i wanna see how the circuit looks like to see if i can retrofit the aftermarket alaram to the new key. i have opened my key apart and can take the transponder out which aligns to the ews thingy. should i give it a try?? what you guys think? __________________ -Theta Chi- Float like a cadilac, sting like a BIMMER .... my socket is just too thick and won't fit in the hole! damnit! From that ebay listing it sounds like it is pretty straightforward, hardest part is the ews. __________________ ~Dave~ 98 328ti Morea Grun slicktop 11 128i space gray slicktop 13 JGC WK2 Deep Cherry Search | RealOEM | | | 08-10-2008, 01:26 PM | #9 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2006 Location: Central NJ Posts: 2,440 | I'm 99% sure it won't work. I thought I lost a key so I looked into it and found out that the alarm system isn't compatible. Then again, there's 1% possibility I'm completely wrong! http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum...d.php?t=504336 | | | 08-10-2008, 02:34 PM | #10 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2007 Location: SW Florida Posts: 4,275 | Yep it looks just like my key to the 330ci Convertible. I can't take it apart either...I already lost the wheel well cover yesterday from being caught in the rainstorm on Friday night... __________________ Sean 1995 Active | | | 08-10-2008, 04:43 PM | #11 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2007 Location: asdfasdf Posts: 10,002 | are you saying the plastic liner inside the wheel well came out while you were driving? | | | 08-10-2008, 07:21 PM | #12 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2007 Location: Denver, Colorado Posts: 3,212 | Quote: Originally Posted by teetime4one Yep it looks just like my key to the 330ci Convertible. I know sean just replaced the cover on the Ti since his was pretty beat up. | | | 08-11-2008, 03:13 AM | #13 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2007 Location: SW Florida Posts: 4,275 | It was on my car...I went to see Sean and came home down I-25 and it fricking poured the whole way! Then I got up to go see the attorney yesterday morning and I heard this noise but I thought someone was weed-whacking...then I drive a block or so and realize that I am the one making the noise...turned around and the thing came off...well I drove on it a little bit.... I had a bad car day yesterday. I had to get the Ti to make it to Louisville to talk to the attorney and then the sunroof got stuck open. Fortunately Sean called and had me go to Lowe's and get a set of allen wrenches and I fixed it... Then I took my wheel well cover to Robert (Sean's boss) and he said he would see if he could order a new one for me. __________________ Sean 1995 Active | | | 08-11-2008, 05:17 AM | #14 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2007 Location: Denver, Colorado Posts: 3,212 | Sounds like a bad day. +1 for fixing the sunroof. | | | 08-14-2008, 05:03 AM | #15 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2007 Location: LA, Bellflower, CA Posts: 3,613 | __________________ -Theta Chi- Float like a cadilac, sting like a BIMMER .... my socket is just too thick and won't fit in the hole! damnit!
