Default NEED THE FORUMS HELP!

So I just got done doing a full head gasket job on my 96, it was down for about 2weeks and without a battery. Replaced the battery (warranty FTW!) and was going to pull the car outta my driveway. As i was going to pull the car outta the driveway I noticed my steering wheel was stuck, I thought it could be since the key wasn't on points its locked and it didn't wanna budge......nope. I pulled the battery out and put it back in the car but it seems like the steering wheels stuck even when the car is turned on FML. A buddy of mine said it could be the steering wheel lock that is a safety feature and can be removed with a 3/8 drill bit... what do you guys think?? ANY HELP PLEASE !!I NEED MY CAR BACK ON THE ROAD

That's my post and pictures. My steering locked right when I was done with my auto to manual swap. Totally out of the blue- I didn't touch the steering column. I drilled right there, had the spring fall out and it's been permanently unlocked and trouble-free since (two years). If you're fine without the steering locked when it's shut-down, I'd say go for it. I don't miss it one bit.

Bryan I wish I could offer some insight, but I've never had troubles with the steering lock before. I do however... have a complete steering column out of my M3 which is yours for the taking, but... you'd obviously need to swap the ignition cylinder and I think if you go that far with the disassembly, then your column might start working again. Anyway, let me know if you need it or perhaps just some parts off of it.

I had this same issue happen to my Wife while I was away on a trip. Needless to say I'm very thankful for this post. I drilled the hole, removed the spring, and now the steering wheel can be turned again.
