Default Using an Electric Water Pump?

Anyone tried installing an electric water pump on their M42s instead of the belt driven one. I am thinking if using an electric water pump will free up some HP due to parasitic drag.

Thanks!

I don't think I would ever consider using something like an electric water pump for the most critical system on your engine. There is more things that can go wrong inside an electric pump and its associated wiring when compared with the traditional belt driven water pump.

Plus I don't know if the benefits are that great between and electric and mechanical pump. If you think of the cooling fan, sure because the fan doesn't always have to run thus you have the major benefit of an electric fan. But the pump always has to run so it is always drawing power.

I guess it could be beneficial if you had an adjustable flow rate pump... but still the life of your engine lies on the pump doing what it should reliably.
