Default Cops

Ok so its 1 in the morning and I am driving home from work, I am doing 70 on the highway when I notice a car on the other side of the road parked, lights off, I was like WTF, then the lights went on as I passed. I was like O ****, a COP!!! I gunned it...

Ok before you guys flame this...

The cop was on the other side of the road, there is a barrier between him and me, so he had to go about 1/4 mile down the road and turn around. Anyway my turnoff was just up ahead so I made a mad dash, taking the 90 degree corner at like 30mph...Skidded out. Just as I made it to the intersection I could see him in my rearview mirror, no flashing lights. Anyway I took some fast turns in the neighborhood, thus ending up at my house. Parked the car in the garage and shut the door.

WOOT lost the cop!!

Anyway that’s my story…anyone here got any cool cop stories?

Pretty ballsy. You mentioned that you were doing 70 on the highway. What's the speed limit on your highway? Don't have to worry about outrunning cops over here. There are times that you are going 10-15mph over the speed limit (65 or 75 depending on which freeway), and all they will do is pull up next to you and just ask you to slow down by waving. I'm sure that if he wanted to catch you, he probably would and could have. Nice moves though.

Wonder if there are any crotch rocket owners on the forum; they usually have some pretty good outrun stories.

I kinda have a funny cop story:

I was on the I-10, cruising at 80 miles an hour when a 2002 Lancer (Not EVO) pulled up beside me. I glanced over and he flipped me off and gunned it. He must have been going over 100 mph easily. I was shocked at the fact that he flipped me off and didn't think much of it. I remained at my cruising speed. I noticed that he was weaving in & out of the traffic on the freeway. About 20 minutes later, I finally caught up with him. He got pulled over. Not only that, the cop had him handcuffed up against his lil' rice mobile. I was laughing so hard that I almost rear-ended a car in front of me that was checking out the cop arresting situation.

Like the ol' saying goes:
"What goes around, comes around."

It sounds like you were "running" from someone that wasn't chasing you. Normally they'll turn the lights on if they are interested in talking to you. I don't understand why you would run from the cop, even if you were going 70 in a 55, they probably don't care. Normally, on a highway, you need to be doing over 15+ for them to even bother. Maybe it was a coincidence that he turned the headlights on when you passed?

Steven is correct, you might be able to outrun a cop (but not in a 318ti!!!), but you'll never out run the police radio!

I once was going about 90 in a 55 on the highway. I was in my old e30, my friend was behind me in his e30 doing the same speed. I looked over and there was a cop pulling a u-turn, so we both merged with the slow traffic. He flew up on us, checked out my friend's car, then checked out mine, couldn't tell which one he saw going fast, so he sped away disgusted. I was sooo nervous. Sometimes it pays to have 2 identical cars in a row :-D

Got a good one.
I drive in the HOV lane quite frequently to save time, but got pulled over
the other day for doing it and got a ticket.
Then 2 days ago I was going down the HOV yet again at 115-120,
passed a cop goinng the other way in normal traffic, he sped up, pulled a U-turn, and lights on, came running.
So what did my youthful spirit do? Speed up.
Continued at over 120 for a few miles, took my exit, a turn, another turn, and another. Got on base, and dissapeared!!! YAY! I WON!!!

You know, when I pull over and act responsible/respectful about it, I either get let off or a 5mph over. Which is a HUGE amount off what I'm usually doing.

It beats dying.

I believe everyone who runs from a cop for speeding is basically a gambler at heart. They measure risk versus reward and take a chance. If you would run from a cop who caught you speeding, DONT try online poker, it'll break you.

i was going 65 in a 45 down a 2 lane road.... (2 in each direction) seperated by a curbed grass median. as i was going...i noticed i passed a cop going the oppisate direction....as i passed i checked the rearview mirror and noticed he immediately crossed 3 lanes (far right lane....all the way to the extra left turn lane) to do a u turn. by that time i was coming up to a red light ( i needed to go straight)....what the hell is a fella to do? i quickly turned into a mcdonals parking lot that connects to some other parking lots...went through there....took some turns behind some buildings...and came on on the side street of the intersection...and just got in the left turn lane and as i was stopped at the light waiting to turn left (equivilent of going straight on the original road), i saw the cop speed through the intersection....lol

of course i dont think his lights ever went on...so maybe he wasnt even coming after me...but it was just that right as i passed him...he immediately swerved through 3 lanes to get into the left turn lane and go my direction

there was a good amount of traffic stopped at the stop lights...so i dont think the cop saw me at the other light....me so sneaky!

I dunno about that. I'm sure a large percentage of those who run from cops are simply stupid and haven't given the consequences any thought at all. Don't get me wrong, I'm not accusing anyone here of being stupid, I'm just pointing out that stupid people do stupid things, and running from the police is pretty stupid in my opinion.

It's one thing to try to avoid a ticket by taking a different route than what you had planned, and/or hiding. But, to go even faster and "running" from the police increases the odds that something BAD will happen.

That's not to say that I always travel at or below the posted speed limit. :-D These damn M44's seem to enjoy gettin' their rev on. I've noticed mine gets happy when it gets around 4K RPM and tries to pull my foot to the floor.

I guess not everyone has seen World's Scariest Police Chases 8 It seems to me that it would take an extreme amount of not thinking clearly to decide that it's a good idea to run from the police. While getting pulled over for speeding sucks, if you're speeding and you get caught you should at least have the decency to be an adult about it and accept responsibility for your actions. Having said that, I do think it's a huge waste of time/money to have police sitting around stopping people for speeding, especially on highways. I know that some places use it as an easy revenue source, but if you don't want to pay, don't speed.

The only time it's okay to run from the police is if you're in virginia and you're already doing 20+ over on an interstate. They'll put you in jail if they pull you over anyway, so why not go for broke? :P

But in Virginia it might be the difference between spending a night in jail and a month.
