Default too good to be true?

Hey everyone I am new here and had to see if I am getting a good deal. I work at a used car dealership and we just bought a 95 318ti from a customer. It only has 53,000 original miles on it and I can get it for about 3500 or less... I have no clue about them though. I dont know the trim level or anything like that the details I do know are its auto, sunroof, cloth interior, it is green exterior. Looks to be in pretty good condition. When I go in on monday I am going to try and buy it so I am hoping to find out what I should look for and if it seems like a good deal. Thanks for any info everyone!

Well if your dealership is like the one my cousin works for then they let their employees buy thier cars at the same price the dealer bought it for. $3500 still seems low but thats probably where the low price is coming from. Carfax for sure, never buy a car without carfax.

A Clean Carfax doesn't mean ****...
You can run a code check by following this:
http://www.pelicanparts.com/BMW/tech...de_Reading.htm
If it's a manual...and checks out code wise...you be crazy not to pick it up for $35 hundy or less. You could always resell it later.
Also- look for tape lines (inner doors-pop out rear windows), you could get it on an alignment rack to see if anything is outta wack. Also look for rust underneath the rear lenses(between bumper and metal), pull out the rear tail lens-look in there). But shoot $3500...??

A low milage Texas car would make a nice platform for adding a supercharger. Might make the auto actually tolerable. It will likely have gray sideskirts though.

it turned out to be too good to be true.... I talked to the appraiser who actually inspected the vehicle and he said to stay far far away. The previous owner had done lots of paint work, and there was possible frame damage, and it drove really badly is what he said. I guess the hunt will continue. thanks for the help

Yeah your right Carfax is usless, Ill just take the previous owners word for everything and if the car is a lemon and breaks down as soon as I drive it away then ,oh well, the Carfax buy back protection thing wasnt going to be that useful anyway. If your too cheap to spend the cash on a Carfax report then you have no right buying a BMW.

I like #6....seems like an easy out to me.
All I'm saying is DMV-reported incidents are not a complete history on any vehicle. So rely on your carfax. BTW- how many educated people buy a lemon and listen to a previous owner?

( Ill just take the previous owners word for everything and if the car is a lemon and breaks down as soon as I drive it away then...you are ignorant and you have no right buying a 318ti. )

Do I detect a hint of sarcasm there?

just a touch with a slight dash of irony added in for good measure.

Carfax is just an easy tool that covers most of your bases in terms of what has happened to the car. It should not be possible for a car to be reported as a lemon or have a catastrophic event such as flooding without being reported to the DMV. Although it is very likely that somebody could not file a claim, and try to fix it themselves and carfax would never offer a buy back if something like that did happen.

Nothing replaces a complete vehicle inspection by someone who is competent and experienced in what to look for.
