Default 4age swap?

I'm new to BMWs, as I've been driving numerous Toyotas (primarily the Ae86) for a long time. I was hoping someone could tell me about the possibilities on swapping a Toyota 4age engine into the 318ti? I thought of doing a BMW S14 swap in the future, but it sounds pretty expensive.

Will a 20v 4age fit without having to modify the oil pan? Any prohibitive issues I could expect?

Thank you for any input.

Don't know about an Ae86, but I wouldn't do an S14 swap. Save those motors for M3s.

Its a great engine but most people go for the bolt in six cylinder swap, the 4age is good for the ae86 chassis, but drive your ti as is for a bit and read/search more about swaps in the mean time, the s14 won't be worth it either.

What is goal? What are you trying to do?

i had a blacktop before on my ae101 sprinter. power was decent but not as good as the s50.

i say save the trouble and just swap in an s50 or s52

4AGE responds nice to FI correct? I honestly would not bother with this type swap due to the availability of M/S5X engines here in the US.

Six cylinders offer nice torque and will not be stressed as much as the four cylinder with a turbo and the heavier E36 compact vs a Corolla or ? What ever smaller Japanese car swap that this engine would swapped into.

RB26 would be fun for sheer grunt.

S14...10k core charge from BMW right now, trust me you don't want to go down that path.

Yes they are both mine. they both absorb $ like it goes out of style since it's a hand built car with NLA parts.

I get that a BMW engine would make more sense, but I have a soft spot for the fun rev-happy 4age series engines. I'm still considering the possibility of a S54B32 though.

However, I still want to explore the feasibility of putting a 20v 4age Blacktop into a 318ti.

S54 would be a great choice, make sure you purchase a manual transmission for ease in the swap.

As a former AW11 C-Street Prepared autocrosser -- and a present M52-swapped 318ti owner/daily-driver -- I would say don't bother. The 4AGE engine has no low-end power, and the extra weight of the 318ti would make the car frustratingly low on ooomph. Drive a 6-cylinder swapped 318ti and you'll never look back...

I think we all know where my vote lies...

You will spend at least as much (if not more) for less power and a lot less low end torque. Plus the aggrivation, which I simply cannot afford at all personally.
