Hello, I have an Alpine white 1998 318ti M Sport that I bought from the original owners. It came with ALL the service records from day one. It has an engine rebuild a few years ago. The car is very clean...

It has new head lights, driving lights, corner/side marker lights, M3 lip spoiler, M logo floor mats, new stainless muffler, air intake, aluminum pedals, radiator, water pump, thermostat & housing, amplifier, woofer, head unit, speakers..! All within 9 months.

I need struts & lowering springs that Im ordering and will seek advice on this site. Need regulator installed. .. I have new one. Also getting 18" wheels & selling my MSport wheels with new condition tires. I had a buyer for the M sport rims here but lost his number when cell crashed!

Regards

Ikon

Thumbs up MY 1998 318ti MTech Cali 5 speed

New Member to this particular BMW forum.
Currently own 5 other BMW's and do all the maintenance and repairs myself with another BMW buddy of mine. We maintain both of our fleets together.
SO, we are not newbies by any stretch of the imagination.

Pretty excited to have this new rare one.... just not totally sure how it will fit into the herd right now though ! Looks to be my new summer toy.
Have had it about 6 months now and been diving into assorted repairs as well as maintenance.

I see good times ahead in this one.

Default Mtech

I have never seen a msport with a California top. But they could have been ordered in such way. Nice customs mM3mirrors though too. Are they heated and all?

Default RE: MY 1998 318ti MTech Cali 5 speed

Honestly .... not sure if the mirrors are heated or not as I have never driven it when the weather was that cold.
Car is not "Loaded" with options as it does not have heated seats or Cruise.
The car looks to be entirely stock original and the options on the car match up to the factory options list......

Looks to be a very rare one. Would love to know exactly how rare though.
How many MTech/Msport California 5 spd's were made ?

Default 318ti

Idk honestly how rare it may be in the end. I know those mirrors were added on by a previous owner. But they look nice. My 318ti had heated seats, the previous owner got rid of them sadly(the wire hookups are now just sitting there) but no cruise control. I not even know they offered cruise control with a 5 speed.

Default 1998 Active with Individual Sunroof

Just picked up a 5MT, Arctic Silver 1998 Ti with the active package and the large fabric sunroof. Nothing else special about the car. The paint is in decent shape and the interior is great for a 19 year old car--especially one with just over 152K on the odometer.

I'm the third owner. The PO bought it in 2001 as a CPO. He had a hard time letting it go. I now know why.

I found the car on a random Craigslist search. The car was still in the same time zone, but some 600 miles and a few states away. I flew to the car and then drove it back home.

The big pluses for me were the good paint, clean leather interior, and the fabric roof. I also liked the upgraded components that come on the 98s & 99s.

I had my "new" Ti up on a lift today. As expected, it has plenty of need for suspension, brake, and drivetrain work. Lucky for me that my son is very handy with these tasks. Sadly, I'm more likely to be his helper than the other way around. Luckily again, he likes to work on cars and he's currently in the process of turning an E30 into a track car. So an E36 is right up his alley.

I will have to do some major refreshing before the car will pass it's VA safety inspection. Sounds like a good reason to start a new thread!

I'm new to cars in general so I'm learning everything with my bf who has 3 bmws 2 ti's and an m3 dakar. We recently picked up a 98' active california top for me to learb and work on with him. I'm very excited for this! It's an avus blue pearl color. Atm we're taking everything out cleaning it up, a lot of work but I'm happy to learn. I come from showing dogs and going to anime/comic conventions so cars will be a whole new thing to me working on wise.

Have 98 with M-Tech suspension. Put on aftermarket springs/struts/shocks and after a few months of potholed NJ roads I want to go back to factory ride height. Seen a bunch of conflicting info on what fits the car vs what SHOULD be on the car.

Have a few projects that need to get finished, guibo/center bearing/tranny mounts are next on the list. As soon as I can find suitable springs, I'll do those. The last two things (I hope) are painting/replacing the nose panel since a JA decided to back into my car w a trailer hitch and replacing the rear woofers/tweeters and speaker mount. Wish finding parts wasn't such a PITA

1998 Active (I think). 3rd owner with 83,000 original miles. I had it almost a year now and I'm really enjoying it. Just had new front sway bar mounts replaced and front end(tie rods, lower control arms) service. Car is much crisper. While it is very different from the RX-8 it replaced it does remind me somewhat of the 2002 I had a long time ago. Great little car. I just took a 2.5 hr drive and really enjoyed it. I do wish I could have the revs below 3k at 70 mph though.

Hey everyone. I am not new to the BMW scene, but I am new to the 318ti scene. I have owned a 2004 330Ci for a few years now, and my dad has owned about 8 BMWs since I was born. Last month I bought a 1995 Alpine White 318ti with a M52B28 swap. The car spent its life in Arizona so it literally has ZERO rust on it. It needs a bit of work, so I imagine once things really get going on the restoration, I will be on here quite a bit. It's late, and the photos I wanted to upload are too big it's telling me, so I will try to post pictures as soon as I can.
