I should know this, but I'm too embarrassed to ask this question of my local geek friends, so I'll ask here.  The box I'd probably put this drive in is a few years old and only has IDE sockets. So, I'm assuming that I'd need an adapter of some sort to use this SATA drive, perhaps something like this PCI card. Is that correct? As long as you use it as a back-up HD for storage, and not as the primary, you would be fine... I don't think it would be any slower than your current set-up, either
(I believe you cannot boot from a HD installed in this fashion, which might cause some issues if you needed to do a serious recovery... Damn, really want to pick one up, but I've got a couple hundred dollars of scotch to buy next week when I'm in Chicago. Bah, think I'm going to wait till the end of next week and cross my fingers. Even if the code doesn't work and I have to pay $99, it's still a hell of a deal.
Was going to ask about rotational speed, but I see there's no real answer. Since you have some of these, what's your experience with them. I guess most people wouldn't notice a difference between a 5400 and a 10k rpm drive, I just don't want something real slow like 4500rpm (like a lt of lapop drives).
