Exclamation Brakes locked up. HELP

I have recently aquired a 1995 318ti. The car hasn't moved in about 5 years and doesnt start. The brake pads have rusted to the rotors and don't move. I have freed the front two wheels and they both now move. The back wheels however refuse to move. I have broken the rotors free from the pads but something seems to still be holding them back. Could the parking brake some how have rusted to the rotors even though it was not engaged or something along those lines? I hooked a tow rope to see if force would free the rear wheels but I only dragged the car 6". Please let me know of anything else that could be locking the rear wheels up and a way to solve such a problem, Thanks

Sounds like you have quite a project. I went through the same thing with an old VW that was sitting. If you've freed the pads from the rotors, it most likely is the parking brake shoes. You'll have to beat the **** out of those rear rotors to get them off! The rear rotors are a combo drum brake hub with an outer disc. Be careful with that 6mm disc retaining screw. Spray alot of PB blaster on that thing. A trick I recently discovered for removing frozen rotors is to spray into the threaded area where your lugs screw into the rotor, allowing penetranting oil to actually get in between the rotor and the hub. Also need a 3lb sledge, maybe a torch. Good luck!

You know, you might be able to bend the extension tube on the spray can into a J shape so as to spray the back of the rotor too (in between the rotor and dust shield). Oh yeah and I forgot, I'd check to make sure the differential has oil in it. And probably use an impact driver or breaker bar with that 6mm retaining screw. People have alot of trouble with those things yet, they're only supposed to be torqued to 12ft/lbs. An easy way to get them off I've found is to have someone step on the brake so you can loosen it an 8th of a turn or so, so on the bright side you don't need an assistant since it won't turn!
