Thank you so much for the reply. You pointed me in exactly the right direction. The boot already had a piece of duct tape over the middle when I bought the car, covering up a thin, roughly 2" crack down one side. The real trouble, however, seemed to be a hose that attaches to the boot at an elbow joint, with both sides of the lip of the hose cracked down the length of it for about half an inch. As one might expect, this is allowing all kinds of air into the fuel line, causing the car to run too lean to fully start. I've since replaced the boot successfully, however, the hose I bought, though it almost identically matches the existing one in contour, is not large enough to enclose both ends where it connects to other components. I was able to duct tape it at the split end however and... success! The car starts, though it has a mean sound to it, like it could die at any moment. Just need to get that hose replaced now. |
