Default Won't start...

After a particularly cold night, I could not get the engine to start the next morning. There is low a chugging or grinding sound, and the engine will not turn over. I've had the battery checked out and it is fine, beyond this I am lost with car repair. Anyone ever experienced something similar and have any tips?

I haven't had that happen personally, but you may check this thread out.

Thank you so much for the reply. You pointed me in exactly the right direction. The boot already had a piece of duct tape over the middle when I bought the car, covering up a thin, roughly 2" crack down one side.

The real trouble, however, seemed to be a hose that attaches to the boot at an elbow joint, with both sides of the lip of the hose cracked down the length of it for about half an inch. As one might expect, this is allowing all kinds of air into the fuel line, causing the car to run too lean to fully start.

I've since replaced the boot successfully, however, the hose I bought, though it almost identically matches the existing one in contour, is not large enough to enclose both ends where it connects to other components. I was able to duct tape it at the split end however and... success! The car starts, though it has a mean sound to it, like it could die at any moment. Just need to get that hose replaced now.

what year is your car? it sounds like you got the hose for an M42 engine when you have an M44 engine

M42s were in 95 ti's, M44s were in 96-99 ti's

Possibly could be the starter. About the only this I can tell you to try would be to tap on the starter wile someone else is trying to start it. If if cranks, you will need a starter. This is the easiest way to check it without a machine.
