Default Removing crankshaft

I'm attempting to remove the crankshaft. Instructions I've read pretty much say that at this point as in the picture I just lift it out. However it is clearly held at one end and although it is loose and can be lifted an inch at the other end it can't be shifted towards the other end. What am I missing? I have tried to remove the housing for the chain in case that is the problem but despite removing all the bolts the housing doesn't budge.
Any suggestions welcome.
