Sounds like it wasn't wired back up correctly or it was shorted when cut. PN of part you replaced? name? #7? __________________ No more ti. It was part #7 on the diagram. I think i shorted out something when i cut it. Would the Tranni control unit have anything to do with this part? Thanks | | | 07-30-2010, 11:13 PM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Oct 2008 Location: NJ Posts: 106 | It's the shift interlock solenoid. Prevents movement of the shift lever under certain conditions for safety such as brake not engaged, etc. See here for operation: http://www.autoshop101.com/forms/h18.pdf It's a Toyota link - can't find my BMW link at the moment. Same basic operation though. I think i shorted out somthing when i cut it out (rookie move). after i bought the new part and plugged it back in did very basic checking like blown fuse, tried to trace wires but it is really hard to see where they go or end up. it used to get really hot to the touch and the pin in the center would pop out when the car was running. now it is cool to the touch and no movement with the replacement part. | | | 07-31-2010, 12:44 AM | #6 | Senior Member Join Date: Oct 2008 Location: NJ Posts: 106 | What year 318ti do you have? I might be able to find the wiring diagram for it. Check your fuses and see if any are blown. | | | 07-31-2010, 04:46 PM | #7 | Junior Member Join Date: Oct 2009 Location: miami Posts: 7 | Hey Monolith, I have checked all fuses and batt conections. its a 1997 ti. thank you for any info you can provide. | | | 07-31-2010, 08:54 PM | #8 | Senior Member Join Date: Oct 2008 Location: NJ Posts: 106 | Here's the wiring diagrams: 1997 318ti | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
