Sorry I searched rear end problems and couldnt find anything | | | 07-17-2013, 05:31 PM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2009 Location: Ft Defiance, AZ Posts: 686 | What problems does the Z3 have with its rear end? Ive never heard of any in either the Z3 or ti __________________ 1999 BMW 318ti 2005 MINI Cooper S | | | 07-17-2013, 08:12 PM | #3 | Junior Member Join Date: Jul 2013 Location: Bakersfield,CA Posts: 3 | The trunk floor welds come apart due to the way the single ear diff is mounted, so that requires obviously a lot of work to fix and a special reinforcement kit and a dual ear diff cover so it doesnt happen again. | | | 07-17-2013, 08:17 PM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2009 Location: Ft Defiance, AZ Posts: 686 | Im gonna go out on a limb and say thats probably only an issue with the 6cyl Z3s, because the Z3 and ti have a near identical rear suspension and thats not a issue on the ti. Granted a lot of people upgrade the rear subframe to handle more power but the trunk floor welds aren't really an issue on these cars. __________________ 1999 BMW 318ti 2005 MINI Cooper S | | | 07-18-2013, 12:18 AM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2007 Location: Elizabeth City, NC Posts: 3,877 | There are a few cases of this happening on tis but they are usually making more than stock power. No specific years that I can recall. Bluebimma worked with Randy Forbes to reinforce the floor of his LS swapped ti and Bubela has a turbo M52 ti that he had to reinforce the floor of. Since you know what to look for it can't hurt to inspect the trunk floor the cars you are considering. __________________ ~Dave~ 98 328ti Morea Grun slicktop 11 128i space gray slicktop 13 JGC WK2 Deep Cherry Search | RealOEM | | | 07-18-2013, 02:54 AM | #6 | Senior Member Join Date: Dec 2010 Location: Wichita Falls, Texas Posts: 1,364 | Quote: Originally Posted by teen ti Im gonna go out on a limb and say thats probably only an issue with the 6cyl Z3s, because the Z3 and ti have a near identical rear suspension and thats not a issue on the ti. I also had a Randy Forbes kit put in, I made a thread about it in here if you would like to check it out. Keep in mind this is also a swapped car. I don't think you'll run into any issues with a stock ti but it you swap the motor it's something you should keep an eye on. | | | 07-24-2013, 05:17 PM | #8 | Junior Member Join Date: Jul 2013 Location: Bakersfield,CA Posts: 3 | Thank you guys! that will definitely help me decide on what to do because if i went out and bought a ti i would definitely want to swap it and most likely track it. | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
