I just swapped an m50 vanos into my 318ti and everything is together but for some reason it won't crank over all the way. I checked fuse 18, relays, grounds, hard wire did the fuel pump, red label 413 dme, snipped the green wire in pin 7, changed cool packs, bought a second red label dme. I'm so lost. Any help would be awesome. Also I'm new to the forum so if this isn't an appropriate comment on your thread please let me know. I've searched this forum and I've done pretty much everything everyone suggest to get the car started. My chassis is a 1997 318ti obd2 and the engine is a 1993 m50 vanos obd1. Any help would be greatly appreciated. | | | 08-21-2017, 12:14 AM | #34 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2009 Location: US Posts: 315 | Quote: Originally Posted by Joshuah.e What did you do about EWS? Does the car turn over at all? | | | 08-21-2017, 03:39 AM | #35 | Junior Member Join Date: Aug 2017 Location: Oregon Posts: 6 | IT turns cranks but doesn't turn over. I have non Ews dme so the dme has no ews. I cut the little green wire on pin 7. | | | 08-21-2017, 03:53 AM | #36 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2009 Location: US Posts: 315 | Ah, red label. Sounds like something isn't wired correctly. Don't mess with fuel pump wiring. I assume it worked fine previously, highly unlikely that is culprit. I believe there is a black shielded wire that you also need to connect by the fuse box. Use this swap thread: https://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/s...er-Swap-Thread Also check photo of bay on page 2 for some wiring. | | | 08-21-2017, 02:36 PM | #37 | Junior Member Join Date: Aug 2017 Location: Oregon Posts: 6 | Not the x20 plug but the x6031 plug the thread is talking about. I have nothing to plug into it. The engine harness and red label dme is all my swap came with and there's no plug to o into it. when I removed the previous motor (m44) I had a small x6031 connector on it. | | | 08-21-2017, 10:02 PM | #38 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2009 Location: US Posts: 315 | What are you missing from this photo? | | | 08-23-2017, 10:39 PM | #39 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2009 Location: US Posts: 315 | Any new info on your swap diagnosis? | | | 08-24-2017, 12:53 PM | #40 | Junior Member Join Date: Aug 2017 Location: Oregon Posts: 6 | It still doesn't turn over. I don't have a #14 pin on the x6031. So the thread to suggested to follow didn't work. I only have 12 in the x6031. Also the main relay is getting power. Maybe the ecu or injectors aren't getting power. Idk. I'm lost. I'm getting spark and the grounds/positives are all good. All my relays and fuses are good. Ews wire cut. Red label non ews dme. STill not starting. | | | 08-25-2017, 03:45 AM | #41 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2009 Location: US Posts: 315 | What harness are you using? Can you take some photos of the wiring? But the more I research the more it sounds like EWS and since that link you suggested tofollow iv been trying to find other links of how to disable or bypass EWS. Like can I just take the module out from behind the dash? Also it's the M50 vanos manual harness | | | 08-29-2017, 01:49 AM | #43 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2009 Location: US Posts: 315 | Had a good cruise to Frankenmuth, MI for NOWO with BlueBimma. Perfect weather and a lot of unique cars. This Audi was perfect. 410 with Getrag on highway is obviously not ideal, but cruising 65-70 in right lane isn't bad. Never need to downshift if that is a plus. BlueBimma's 6.0 V8 is almost perfect. Josh - Upload some pics via imgur or another hosting site. Are the motor/harness from same car? Did you undo any of the fuel pump wiring you did? No you cannot take out module. I doubt grabbing a tune with EWS disable would solve the issue. What have you done currently to the wiring? | | | 09-11-2017, 01:25 AM | #44 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2009 Location: US Posts: 315 | It's with sadness that the motor has been obliterated. BMW enthusiast neighbor took around the block, which normally I have no problem letting others drive. It's a swapped Ti nothing fancy. He was moving in 3rd and went to 2nd, barely touched brakes but let out the clutch. I saw tach go to 7500 and keeping climbing. Motor was done for. Metal on metal instantly. Car died. Got home, drained oil. Metal bits and the spring from one of the main seals. Leaked out the front main seal as well. Pulled plugs. Pistons have marks from hitting valves and #6 smacked the spark plugs shattering piston. I don't think anything is salvageable. The full ARP kit might be bent as well. Trans could be ****ed. Very lucky he did not lose it and put into pole. Car will get rebuilt with another built 6 most likely or something similar. | | | 09-11-2017, 04:41 AM | #45 | Senior Member Join Date: Dec 2011 Location: SoCal Posts: 702 | Quote: Originally Posted by ZEK It's with sadness that the motor has been obliterated.
