Default Is 0W-40 the best oil to use?

I was using 5w-30 but I found mobile 1 0w-40 and I do not know if is going to be good in viscosity, becuase for temp looks nice

I've never heard of 0w-40 before, there is no such thing.
Do you mean 10w-40?

It really depends on the temperature outside. I changed mine last sunday and used 5w-30 because it's heading into winter time.

I like Mobil1 0w-40.

We use it in 5 out of the 6 cars at home.

Yes, there is such a thing, at around 5-6 dollars a quart, and can be bought at even a Wal-mart.
I have heard it is a very good oil to use. But some people are skeptical about it.

I might go ahead and try it next oil change.

After doing some research i would not put this oil in your car unless you live in Alaska or Antartica. It is for Arctic extreme cold weather only, not meant for warm weather.

You can put whatever oil you want in your car but if you put in a weight that is meant for colder temperatures and it's a warm climate where you are you will do some damage to your engine.

I use Mobil 0w-40 year-round. It's one of a few oils that's approved by BMW. It meets their "LongLife 01" standard. I've been getting it at $4.75 lately at Mills Fleet Farm.

Just a little refresher on oil viscosity.

Multigrade oils typically begin as base oils, such as 10W. Then viscosity-index modifiers (polymers) are added in an effort to stabilize the viscosity. This allows a 10W40 oil to flow like a 10W at cold temperatures and a 40W at higher temperatures. In other words, multigrade oils are formulated to pass viscosity tests across a range of weights. For example, 10W30 meets the requirements for 10-weight at cold temperatures and 30-weight at high temps. The "W" means winter, not weight.

So, infact, 0W-40, is a very good oil in my opinion. Flows really well at start up and protects well at operating temperature. Pretty much everything you could ask for in an oil. You are right that temperature has everything to do with the flow of oil, but in this case it's hard to argue that 0W-40 will harm your engine.

The 0W-40 is what the Mobil 1 website recommends for a 1998 318ti. I've used it once, but they don't have it in the 5 quart jugs like the 5W-30. So I've stuck with that for cost and convenience.

I use 0w-40 as well as the previous owner of my TI. If you go to bavauto, and use the keywords "Lubro Moly", it'll be 4 listing down the page along with other oils and additives.

See when it coems down to oil i go by the time of the year. For winter i use 5w-30 and the rest of the year i use 10w-40 or 30,can't remember off the top of my head but it's in my shed. When it's cold i use thinner oil and when it's hot i use the thicker stuff.

It seems that when I use anything less than 10w30 I get oil spots, possibly from a leaking oil filter cap.

i must warn you, its not really possible to just try it, once mobil 1 has coated your engine parts, it aint comin' off. using a different oil brand after mobil1 may actually damage your engine, as "apparently" no other oil can lubricate these coated parts.thats what mobil say. so once youv'e used it, you have to keep using it.
it was a long time ago i heard this info, but this is what my older workmates were told when we first became a mobil1 dealer. make of it what you will. but this is what the "skeptical" people would be saying also.
