Default What is this and why is it in my car?

Ok so today I look down by my petals and see a strange switch hanging down right behind them. Upon further inspection I found a wire under the floor mat that has some kind of output/ plug thingy on it (no I know absolutely nothing about electronics). Since my dad is pretty crazy about me not having a fast car is there any way that this is some kind of governor? My car will shift at redline in sport mode so its obviously not a rev limiter and according to my speedo Ive gone over 100 mph so I dont think it limits top speed. Could it be some kind of acceleration governor? If not a governor (and I know that Im probably being paranoid) what is it? Sorry about the pics, they are from my phone.

Flip the switch then try and start your car?

That's probably the self destruct switch. They are usually hidden under the floor mat.

possible immobiliser cut-out. i had a similar switch, but those types of switches are universal, so it could be for anything..

Ok, so to clarify, there are actually two things that you don't know about.

1) The switch - interesting. . . can you see where the wires go from that? Tell us more about your car -especially if it has any aftermarket mods.

2) The wires w/ a plug. Given that they're red-black-green perhaps someone here could figure out what that plug could possibly be.

Oh - and NO, it is not a governor. (however, for you to ask that question - are you implying that your dad may have done something to the car to keep you from driving over a certain speed? If you think your dad has made some changes to the car, perhaps you should be asking him about this).

It's an alarm valet switch. Pull it out, nobody uses them anyways.

LMAO Thanks, I needed that.

But seriously... I thought the SDS was a red button under a clear, flip-up cover, and is generally mounted on the center console near the window buttons, or on the top of the dash.

Ok, I was pretty sure that it wasnt a governor but the way my dad has been acting lately it definitly could have been a possibility. Ill take a look at the colors later. And asking him would be pointless, he lies.

Of course I'm not 100% sure, it's your friggin' car.

It LOOKS like a valet switch, if it doesn't do anything just tuck it under the dash and forget about it.

What kind of alarm does your car have?

I swapped in a stock BMW alarm from a 318is when I bought it. Im not sure if it does anything because Ive never flipped the switch, just in case it is the self destruct switch...

Um... given that the switch is IN your car... if you flip that switch and your car blows up, I don't think you're going to be needing another car.
