Default Drop Spindles?

I went in to get an alignment after putting on the H&R race springs, and the guy told me that he wasn't able to do it because it needed drop spindles. What are these, and where can I get them from?

As far as I know they don't make them for our cars. My old Chevy truck had drop spindles. Basically it's a modified kingpin(the part that the 3 lower strut bolts mount to). By lowering the strut mounting location, you're able to maintain a factory ride with OEM or aftermarket shocks and springs. Like I said though, I'm almost positive they don't make them for our cars. He's just an old school mech and doesn't know about Bimmers. Go somewhere else, it might be difficult to find someone to do an alignment since your car is lowered and most shops don't know how to deal with it.

Jess is right, spindles are an alternative to lowering springs..
+1 on finding a different shop.. when I went in for alignment after my springs, as soon as I said BMW, he started freaking out and almost refused to touch the car. Tried to tell me it required all sorts of specialty tool and computers. And he didn't seem to believe that I had been under the car and done enough work, including the suspension(twice). Then when it was done, he had to point out that 'it appeared that the car had been lowered! :rolleyes I laughed and said 'thats why I told you I brought it in, in the first place".

I've never had a problem with alignments either.
Shops that used a Hunter would just use the settings for a 323ti.

I just had a an alignment done, and I have camber kits. Most shops should be able to do it.

Check around for local autocross or SCCA clubs. My local club has a member who runs a shop and while it's not advertised he'll do an amazing alignment for cheap on just about anything.

It's always good to find an enthusiast to work on your modified car and local clubs are a good way to find them.

Good luck

My experience is that most shops don't do anything but adjust the toe. It's taken quite a few f'ups to find a guy that knows what he's doing. I had one guy just give up in the middle of an alignment and say it was done. The tie rod adjusters were loose and it was toed in an INCH. Not to mention the caster/camber was way the hell off.

As mgbman69 said, looks at the local clubs and find where they get thier stuff done.

ive been to a few shops with my car, and with the pss9 suspension and adjustable camber plates, they wont even touch it, and if they do they only do the toe. worthless. finding a good shop around me is hard. forget about finding a autocross club, there are none!

Get a recommendation for your local BMW CCA. Your alignment guy is a retard.
