Exclamation Noise from rear !

Hi guys, i have a strange noise almost like a loud swirling or whislting noise thats coming from the rear of the car and you can hear it when accelearating at about 35mph and above also i can put the car in neutral and be cruising and still hear the noise ! any ideas as to what it culd be ? it sounds like its coming from rear left but not too sure. cheers guys

Maybe a diff whine. What maintenance have you done to the rear lately?

I had a bad differential in my 318ti back in the late 90's. I heard it clearly, but I had to take it to three different dealerships before a technician finally recognized it. Luckily mine was replaced under warranty.
