Default WTH is this squeeling/whistling noise??

ive got a '95 318ti and if the car hasnt been driven in a couple of hours...it will run ok for about 5-10 mins. then all of a sudden, it makes this loud squeeling noise...or whistle. it only does it when im not on the throttle or at least under 20% throttle. every now and then it will change a different tone. but it is incredibly loud and annoying. im thinking the idler pulley. anyone else had this problem? please help me so i can fix it ASAP. thank you

I had that same problem about a year ago. I don't know what the part is called, but the piece that holds the pulley on the inside broke off and makes it loose. I took it to the dealership and they charged me about $300 I think, so do not go there.

New to the forum. Hey all! I have a 95ti and i have had it nearly a year. I hear a periodic tick tick or whistle sound coming from the front or rear wheel area. Plus, i hear a rattle noise every time i hit a bump. I tighted the catalytic coverter cover with metal clamps, but the noise is coming from the rear strut area. These appear to be two separate noise. Any clues?

i think drifter means the Crankcase Vent Valve. i have a whistling noise too which seems to be coming from there. just got the part today, i'll let you know how it turns out when i get a chance to install it....and i'm also replacing most of the vacuum hoses too....

ok i finally fixed it. the crankcase vent valve its easy to do. if you're gonna replace the hoses too, its a little more involved....my hoses were ****ed! but the crankcase valve literally disintegrated after i got it off
no more whistling.

Crankcase Vent Valve just have to remove two 5mm Allen bolts. bimmerzone.com for 42$

I have got that same problem too (whistling sound) it sounds like it is coming from the crankcase vent. valve. I will replace it as well as the hoses also.

BTW, does anyone know of a website that sells the upper intake manifold gasket? The gasket which is next to the crankcase ventilation valve.
