The weather strip along the window/door is all cracked and ripping off on my drivers side. When I replace it does it clip to something or the entire strip is glued? Do I need to use any type of certain glue? Anything else I need to replace the piece? Thanks. | | | 05-01-2006, 12:36 AM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Greenville, SC Posts: 9,356 | Are you talking about the rubber trim that goes along the top on the door panel? Very easy to replace. There is a small hook towards the rear and is fastened with doubleside tape. I used a rubber mallet to tap it in place. __________________ ...steven BMW CCA #146825 1996 BMW 328ti • 2003 MINI Cooper S • 2016 M235i www.bmwcca.org | | | 05-01-2006, 12:45 AM | #3 | aka Stabby Join Date: Nov 2004 Location: Mead, CO Posts: 5,336 | dammit ... reminds me i still need to do that! my passenger's side is cracked/broken ... __________________ 1996 318ti, California package, 267k miles current mods: bilstein sports, bavauto springs, e30 m3 LCABs, solid metal ball joints, bavauto RSMs w/reinforcements, e30 3.73 LSD & halfshafts, supersprint cat-back exhaust, turner rear sway bar reinforcements, IE poly subframe & RTABs + camber/toe kits, powdercoated e36 32x front calipers, sport mirrors, H&R 28mmF/19mmR sway bars, x-brace, auto solutions SSK w/poly bushing upgrade, BMW CD43 head unit, DICE HD Radio w/iPod integration and "stealth" HD antenna, staggered style 68s, orange electronic TPMS, leather arm rest, JT Designs metal undertray acquired and awaiting install: heated seat kit, cali top switch relo, lumbar support kit, park distance control kit, heated washer nozzle kit, m-coupe rear subframe, trailing arms, differential, and halfshafts, m-coupe front/rear brakes with master cylinder, under hood light kit, mud flaps, rear sun blind, auto-dimming rear view mirror, tilt steering wheel retrofit, apexcone 5000K HIDs with 55W ballasts 2002 X5 4.4 Sport Package, 53.5k miles Current Mods: e46 m3 steering wheel | | | 05-01-2006, 04:18 AM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2004 Location: Florida Posts: 1,595 | Quote: Originally Posted by 1996 328ti Are you talking about the rubber trim that goes along the top on the door panel? It's on the door next to the window and goes along towards the mirror. | | | 05-01-2006, 04:49 AM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Greenville, SC Posts: 9,356 | Quote: Originally Posted by Viper3812 I'm talking about the rubber trim on the outside of the door. At least they are called that on other cars. | | | 05-01-2006, 06:12 AM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2005 Location: Melbourne, Fl/Athens, AL Posts: 393 | Mine suck; I roll my windows down, then up again, and they don't do a thing. Another very easy DIY job. __________________ ...steven BMW CCA #146825 1996 BMW 328ti • 2003 MINI Cooper S • 2016 M235i www.bmwcca.org | | | 05-01-2006, 10:55 PM | #12 | Moderator Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Bouncing off the rev limiter in CT! Posts: 3,156 | I just replaced mine, both rear ends were cracked away from the rest of the strip. $24.00 each; but I have to replace the right one again as I hooked the end and pulled it when I did not want to, which ripped off the rubber tail... It comes with a sticky bit of tape on it, and the remainder clips onto a metal strip on the top of the door. Clean and wax the length before instalation; however you want to clean with alcohol the area where the sticky strip will stick. The forward end tucks under the mirror slightly... Very easy job; just watch the hook... | | | 03-25-2007, 10:04 PM | #13 | Member Join Date: Mar 2007 Location: Scotland Posts: 41 | Does anybody have any pictures of this procedure? I need to do mine, also the vertical strip that the rear edge of the driver's door fits against when closed; looks lke that is part of the rear window rubber surround. Thanks. __________________ 2000 316i SE Compact 1.9 | | | 03-26-2007, 06:55 PM | #14 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2006 Location: SOUTH Jersey Posts: 1,085 | how about the seal that goes around the window?
