The ls1 weighs as much as our iron-blocked I6 engines. Weight is VERY negligible.

hmm well i have a couple weeks to decide here. i guess i need to find a member on a local forum to meet that has a m3 just to see what it is about. and as for the ls1 my stepdad has a 04 vette so i know what it will do. and yes it is a very nice performing engine in stock form. thanks for the insight on what i am getting into

okay well here is the update the saturn still hasn't sold and i received a email from a guy that offered to trade a black 98 cali top for it( i thought was odd because i was looking for a 318ti and didn't mention it in my post but cool) me and the guy talked today it has 140k doesn't leak the top works fine heat and ac is good the rad and waterpump have been replaced by bmw 10k ago so we have setup a time to meet tomorrow. now for the bad news on my part it is a auto and since my wife has seen the pics of the car and knows it is auto she wants it lol i tried to get her to like the ti for a while now and she hasn't till today lol but oh well. so if this goes good tomorrow and is a good trade then hopefully we will own our first bmw with another soon to come for me. (i will just have to sell her current car to fund it lol so back to square one on my ride)

Heh, good luck with the trade and purchase, if it goes through. Also, make sure that cali-top doesnt leak and functions properly.

yeah on the leaks this guy is going to think i am nuts when i test drive it to a carwash and spay it down to look for leaks. from what i have read they are bad about it and expensive to replace or fix. but he did say it doesn't leak and works great. i have been reading alot on what to look for on a ti when purchasing one. and i was wondering is there a way to tell if it has the original motor by engine codes or something.

Just rent a compressio tester from autozone. The car comes with a spark plug remover kit and you can see how well the engine is.

wow thats some luck you got that out of the blue he offered you a cali top TI. most girls i bring around think my ti is ugly... i make em sit there and stare at it lol. but autozone rents compression testers? hand DAMMMMNNNNNN Tony i seen the 350Ti when the guy swapped his 5.0 mustang into a Ti but i have always been more of a camaro guy and a LS1 is a badass swap into a ti.. im sure the ls dont have the same overheating problems it did in the vette/camaro it came from. those things are notorious for overheating or running high temps because of their closed off bumpers..

Either way gl on the trade and car wash test glen

okay well here it goes first i received a call from the guy and we made plans to meet. so me and my wife went to meet the guy. well he told me over the phone that the brakes need love but that he has the rear rotors and pad to do so. and the window track is screwed but he also has a window regulator to do that to. we arrived at the location about 15 mins. early so we were sitting in the parking lot smoking then he showed up that rear brake sounded like **** and it had a exhaust leak so it sounded like **** too. lol so we test drove it and it ran like a champ so we went back and i looked over the car inside and out. so we talked and did it even though it wasn't a even trade for the car we had but the history of our car was it had a rebuilt title 104k and it was a 04 ion but it was my old company car and the company folded and i got to keep the car as my share of the assets. so with that said the ion was free to me lol. so we did it and we took it right up to the car wash to clean it up and man it was dirty as **** i don't see how someone can let a car go that bad muchless tring to trade it but oh well. then i took it home and fixed the window which i must say is a piss poor design on bmw's part lol. then i removed the rear wheel to find out that the ti's rear rotor is different than all the other e36s so luckily the guy gave me the receipt to the rotors and pads and he paid cash so i will go return them tomorow for the right ones. and the steering wheel had a worn spot on it but he also had a new one to replace it so i went to work on it and did that. as for the exhaust i am going to drop it off at a local shop probably weds. to get a quote and so what needs to be done but i must said i think i need a new cat and pipe from the cat to the muffler but the muffler on the car is new and i mean new it still has the bar code on it lol. but pics are coming soon
