Default Radio on Alpine head unit.

Apologies if this already been covered, but I did not find anything in a search of the posts.

I need to sort out my radio connection for my Alpine headunit in my 318ti. I believe I need a simple booster inline (just takes a power connection and amplifies the radio signal from the aerial) but I was wondering if anyone else had similar problems and found a better solution. I know the standard bmw headunit used a power aerial but I am not sure whether this was something to do with the uprated sound system with amp (which interestly, the previous owner had butchered in favor of the onboard amp of his sony md headunit!) or whether the bmw aerial actually needs a power source.

In a seperate issue, where on earth is the bmw aerial located? I had heard it was under the skin of the roof somewhere!

Thanks,
Rich.

The rear antenna on the ti is the rear-window defroster. Diversity antenna models have a rear aerial, but you'd have noticed that if you have it.

The module is under the carpet on the left side of the trunk.

Interesting... does the defroster that doubles as an aerial/antenna need to be powered?

I never noticed a module under the carpet when i was laying down the sound deadening in the boot. The only electronics I noticed were the amp and cables in the left side well and a large sensor under the rear bench...
