I have a feeling it's the bearings, which is a sealed unit, meaning one has to replace/order the whole hub assembly. Has anyone here ever done this. Can it be the tie rod or control arms? Suggestions/recommendations? __________________ It's always a great day to be underwater and play with the fish.....preserve our oceans and reefs" Fariz 1997 318ti, Hellrot (Bright Red), Dinan Stage 2 Chip 16x7 OEM sport Wheels/X-Brace/Custom Strut Brace/Cold Air Intake/M-Tec Steering Wheel/Koni Adjustable FrontShocks/ Bilstein Sport Rear Shocks /H&R Sport Springs/Custom fabricated strut tower brace/Rear Strut brace, Stromung Exhaust Future Mods: E46 17" wheels or Kosei K-1 17x8.5s | | | 02-20-2007, 05:33 PM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2006 Location: Oxford, Ohio Posts: 868 | I have done the wheel bearing replacement. It was relatively easy. Got the parts at Pelican and they were reasonably priced. I would do them as a pair, unless you know that the other 1 was done recently. Buy all the parts shown in the realoem diagram. You may have to destroy the inside dust cap to get the inner race off the kingpin. Some people have trouble getting the rotor off because of the rusty flathead screw that holds it in place. But the fix for that problem has been covered (drill the head off, and replace with a new screw). | | | 02-20-2007, 05:53 PM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2004 Location: Lincoln Park Capitol Hill, Washington DC Posts: 741 | Quote: Originally Posted by dave45056 I have done the wheel bearing replacement. Part # 31-22-6-757-024-M342 But before I actually perform this, I really want ascertain whether it is the bearings or Tie Rods. What did you experience with your car before you replaced the bearings? Not sure how much is acceptable (maybe 15 minutes or so) but usually it's quite noticable when they are shot. At any rate the steering in the ti is so tight, you would notice this. Also, tie rod ends usually rattle when going straight. Making noise when cornering sounds like a wheel bearing to me. Also, don't forget the dust sheilds and nut. Nut must be new, front dust cap will be destroyed when you remove it. You MAY get lucky and not need the inner one, but better to have and not need this $2.50 part. | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | Similar Threads | Thread | Thread Starter | Forum | Replies | Last Post | WTB: Bent OEM Wheel | CirrusSR22 | US and North America | 5 | 11-25-2008 04:14 PM | |
