Join Date: Aug 2004 Location: Denver, CO Posts: 3,925 | Pike's Peak pics Thought I'd share these with everyone. I drove up Pike's Peak today in a crappy '06 Outback rental car. First gear pinned the whole time! Man, that thing is a pig. If you haven't been to Pike's Peak, you need to check it out. The view is incredible, a sign says 1" on the horizon equals 38 miles, so I could literally see for thousands of miles from the peak (14,100 feet about sea level). http://180customs.net/v-web/gallery/Pikes-Peak - There is a "slideshow" link in the upper right corner of the album. Click that and the pics will change automagically. I'm going to try to make it back out to Colorado for the Pike's Peak hill climb on July 1st, it looks INSANE! You can actually see tire marks on the tarmack sections up the hill from the soft rally rubber. Unfortunately that damn Outback could barely spin the tires on gravel, so no sideways driving for me! __________________ '99 Dinan M3 | | | 05-22-2006, 05:45 AM | #2 | Member Join Date: Oct 2005 Location: San Diego, CA Posts: 55 | awsome pics!! really cool! Yeah right! I'll let you do it first, then you can tell me how much fun it is. I don't think PP would be a good one to bike up. The amount of traffic is pretty heavy and the road is rather narrow in places (with no guard rails). There is no "bike path", but I saw one dude hiking up with his dogg. He didn't look like he was having much fun. __________________ '99 Dinan M3 | | | 05-22-2006, 02:34 PM | #5 | aka Stabby Join Date: Nov 2004 Location: Mead, CO Posts: 5,336 | ok ok ... we can do lookout mountain (around 7 miles up) or maybe mount evans (haven't done that one yet, but it's very popular, lots of bikers on that road), both of which are paved so you could do road bikes as well. __________________ 1996 318ti, California package, 267k miles current mods: bilstein sports, bavauto springs, e30 m3 LCABs, solid metal ball joints, bavauto RSMs w/reinforcements, e30 3.73 LSD & halfshafts, supersprint cat-back exhaust, turner rear sway bar reinforcements, IE poly subframe & RTABs + camber/toe kits, powdercoated e36 32x front calipers, sport mirrors, H&R 28mmF/19mmR sway bars, x-brace, auto solutions SSK w/poly bushing upgrade, BMW CD43 head unit, DICE HD Radio w/iPod integration and "stealth" HD antenna, staggered style 68s, orange electronic TPMS, leather arm rest, JT Designs metal undertray acquired and awaiting install: heated seat kit, cali top switch relo, lumbar support kit, park distance control kit, heated washer nozzle kit, m-coupe rear subframe, trailing arms, differential, and halfshafts, m-coupe front/rear brakes with master cylinder, under hood light kit, mud flaps, rear sun blind, auto-dimming rear view mirror, tilt steering wheel retrofit, apexcone 5000K HIDs with 55W ballasts 2002 X5 4.4 Sport Package, 53.5k miles Current Mods: e46 m3 steering wheel | | | 05-22-2006, 02:59 PM | #6 | doesn't care about you. Hmmm...looks like I better find a bike rack for the Acura! __________________ '99 Dinan M3 | | | 05-22-2006, 05:21 PM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2003 Location: cary, nc Posts: 2,259 | cool view...looks awesome. you are my hero. the end. __________________ 1995 318ti Active Pioneer Speakers [] Aluminum Billet door locks [] ACS Pedals/Deadrest [] ACS Shift Knob / E-Brake Handle [] Clear Corners/Tails/Sides [] Sylvania Exterior Lighting [] Custom CAI [] Dinan Engine Chip [] Dinan Transmission Chip [] H&R Race Springs [] Tokico Illumina Shocks [] BMW X-Brace [] Relocated Lighter Mod [] Custom iPod Mod http://www.cardomain.com/id/robcarync | | | 05-22-2006, 05:28 PM | #8 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: PA Posts: 822 | Nice pictures! Thats an awesome view. Have you ever checked out Fish Creek Falls in Steamboat Springs CO? I loved hiking there. I am surprised and disapointed at the lack of snowpack at that elevation in CO. | | | 05-22-2006, 05:35 PM | #9 | doesn't care about you. It looks like some of the other mountains in the distance had much more than Pike's did. I haven't been to Steamboat Springs, but I hear it's a pretty cool place too. __________________ '99 Dinan M3 | | | 05-22-2006, 05:49 PM | #10 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: PA Posts: 822 | Quote: Originally Posted by DustenT Yeah, they wasn't much snow up there. The hot springs are awesome and the skiing and snowboarding is the best Ive experienced so far, thats only because I received about 5 feet of snow when I was there last time. So really any place that you go to and you get lucky enough to get dumped on has the possibility of being the best place at that time. | | | 05-22-2006, 06:32 PM | #11 | Senior Member Join Date: Dec 2004 Location: Northern New Jersey Posts: 395 | Pike's I was in Colorado a number of years ago in late July, it was spectacular. The roads going up some of the trails are downright scary. We rented a Ford Explorer, so there was no playing around on the paths. Spectacular trip. It snowed the night before I went up Mt. Elbert (the highest point in Colorado). Great pics | | | 05-23-2006, 03:54 PM | #12 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2004 Location: Pennsylvania Posts: 218 | Nice pics. Amazing view... this really is a beautiful country. Went to Co. two years ago and was simply amazed at the view from those mountains... nothing like the appalachians, lol. | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
