Default 4 cylinder cluster

Anyone here do the 4 cylinder tach adjustment for use with a 6 cyl. The process where you hold in the odometer button to re-program it.

I just got J!m's manual and It lists the procedure but it's kinda sketchy. Just wanted to know if it is a decent way to go.

You can't adjust the tach from the cluster. The engine factor is programmed into the code plug that sits in the back of the cluster. I'm not sure if code plugs are removable or swappable between clusters from a 4cyl and 6cyl.

On ebay, 6cyl clusters are going for ~$50 shipped so it's not too heavy an investment.

You really can't? Wow I'm glad I asked. Do you have J!m's manual, he doesn't personally verify it being done but states that someone else has through the diagnostic program in the cluster. Which seems like it could be golden but who really knows, lol.

Maybe I'll try it out. I'll guinea pig it up for sake of cheapness.

I read there is some sort of module that can be installed.

I suppose I could probably intercept the ECU messages to the cluster and create a module to do it. . . but I'm too busy to do all that work right now.

Change the cluster, the module, or it must be reprogrammed with a specific machine and software...no other way around it.

Other than the tachometer issue, does a 4 cylinder cluster work fine with a 6 cylinder engine?

Yessir.

but like Zboot said, they go from $50-100 on ebay... a small investment in the grand scheme of things.

I was just curious for testing purposes. My donor car should have all the parts I need (Assuming everything in the new cluster works....).
