You better jump on that or the bottom of your car will be a complete mess. It is really very easy to fix. While the alternator is out, you can also check the voltage regulator brushes.

thanks for the tips and the web sites i have them in my favorites now.
i cant belive i was trying to sell this car today i got offered 5 gs for it and i turned it down even with an oil leak lol. im a vw and bmw guy and thats all ther is to it.i compleatly striped this bmw to bare metal and redid everything except the suspension i can belive i forgot the oil filter housing seals what a knuckle head!! but thanks to all you bmw guys i know i can count on this website for any issues i have with my 318ti so im keeping the car and hopfully i will soon make it a atlanta downing supercharged bmw because i get sideways every chance i get \ / thanks again

Just make sure that you never use silicon sealer where it touches oil under pressure in the engine. I've torn down too many blown engines at the track with a little clump of silicone blocking a critical oil passage.

Update:

Two days after the repair. engine oil pan is still dry.

Update after 5 days. Still dry. I'm happy the oil leak is fixed.
