most noticable problem is going to be oil consumption and low power depending on how worn they are. i dont think there is a particular sound to go along with worn rings. the best thing to do would be a compression test or, prefferably, a leakdown test. if you have a compression tester you can do this yourself and it will tell you if you have low compression. although low compression could result from a problem with the valves as well. the leakdown test will tell you exactly where the compression is leaking. the compression test will basically tell you if you have a problem. if you do...thats when you do a leakdown test. so have the compression tested, it cant hurt. so have your compression tested and keep an eye on your oil if you think your rings have a problem. thats my advice. ps. a BROKEN ring will rattle and make lots of nice noises. although im pretty sure the car would be running awful with the dead cylinder. if it runs smooth i'd assume the rings are intact __________________ Vince Carknard 1995 318ti Active Hellrot, 16" 5 spoke, "Fogged" airbox mod, Stromung exhaust, Bilstein Sports, BMW sport springs, 3.73lsd, others... |
