I have really bad luck, Im screwed!

So Ive been haveing some weird noises coming from my engine for the last few weeks and I had an appoitment to have it checked out next week. Yesterday I was coming home from the gym and everything went wrong. On my way to my house I switched between eco and sport mode (I have a auto), and I didnt notice any difference. Then the girl who was riding with me said she smelled something weird. When I got home I opened the hood while it was running to see what was going on. While I was watching it the engine started to shake alot and then went still and quiet like it lost power. Im screwed.

I think I do but there is oil leaking from the valve cover and alot has burned up on the edges of it. Im getting it checked today or tomorrow but if you guys know anything about what could be going on then Id like to be armed with a little knowledge.

You didn't mention a loud bang or anything, but it is possible the engine seized. Check your Oil level, is it on the dipstick?

Uhh, you do know how to check the oil, right?

I'm assuming if his oil was low the oil light would've been on unless that bulb is burnt out.

I just got the oil changed 2 months ago so I think the oils fine. I didnt hear a loud bang but there was a whining, reving sound that went along with the engine that was getting worse when it happened. I cant get it in to be looked at until next week so Im going to be stuck without a ride, this sucks. Nothing happened like in that other thread, it still runs it just loses power like its going to stall and then goes back to normal.

When you make a post like this you need to leave as many details as possible. In your first post it sounded like your engine stopped running, and wouldn't start back up. It's very hard to diagnose a problem without actually being at the car... so every little detail helps. What is your oil level?Any warning lights on the dash? (Service engine, Oil, etc)Where on the engine does the whining come from?How long does it stutter for before it goes back to normal?What was the smell that the girl noticed? When it loses power, what RPM range does it happen at?And a basic one, what year is the car?How many miles?Does it make and strange noises off idle?

Have you checked the oil, yet? If I don't add oil for two months good lord I would be screwed. Check it every week better safe than sorry. If you are running synthetic you will burn oil faster.

Sorry Ive been posting from school cause my computers been gone so Im trying to keep them short. I have a 96' with 117000mi on it. No warning lights on the dash have gone off. Im not sure what the oil level is and Ill check tonight but I think its fine. The smell is a burning smell and the sound comes from the front right of the engine. When it shakes like its going to stall it is after I have stopped for a few seconds after it has been running for a while and it dips to 600-400rpm.

Ok I guess I have very good luck and not very bad luck. I took it in today and my mech. friend spotted the problem in about 3 seconds. There was a hose that had came split and needed to be replaced. Im havin' him throw it up on the lift though to see if the tranny mounting bracket is broken.
