Check the intake boot for cracks.. thats what happened to me. Basically every time the engine was put under load the crack would open causing stuttering.. | | | 08-06-2009, 11:44 PM | #3 | Member Join Date: Aug 2009 Location: New Orleans Posts: 68 | That doesn't sound like the mounts to me, I just replaced both my mounts and one was completely in half the other was damn close and mine wasn't doing that. But who knows it could be, Check your trans mounts. How many miles does it have? | | | 08-10-2009, 09:56 PM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Dec 2007 Location: Gulfport, Florida Posts: 3,208 | Check Guibo joint on end of transmission | | | 08-11-2009, 03:13 AM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2006 Location: North Bay, Northern California Posts: 251 | It was the engine mounts...just changed them out last night. I've seen that this is the easy side in a couple of tutorials, but the bracket has shifted down and in about one inch from proper position. When I jack up the motor, will it likely line back up? Thanks, folks. | | | 09-02-2009, 09:35 PM | #7 | Member Join Date: Aug 2009 Location: New Orleans Posts: 68 | Quote: Originally Posted by gabe3 My passenger side mount is sheared in half, and I know everyone says they should both be replaced at once, but for time and money reasons, I'd like to only replace passenger side. Thanks, folks. | I don't think that that bracket should be doing any shifting...when I changed mine mine was still in the same place, and I'm pretty sure that it is directly bolted to the frame and then rubber mounts btw that bracket and the bracket on the motor. Something could have come lose so you might want to look at it. I don't think it will just slide back in place unless we're talking about 2 dif brackets. | | | 09-02-2009, 09:47 PM | #8 | Junior Member Join Date: Aug 2009 Location: Nashville Posts: 8 | Thanks for the reply, tbake504 (I'm a New Orleans native myself. I grew up in Lakeview). To clarify, the frameside metal part and most of the rubber part are still in place, on the frame. The rubber seems to have rotted and split, allowing the motor side and its metal to slide about an inch off the center of the rubber part. The arm coming from the motor is still resting on the rubber, but just barely on the inner edge. I'm hoping that when I jack up the engine, it will also move a bit more toward the passenger side allowing for easy placement of the new mount. Otherwise, I may be looking at a bent frame? | | | 09-02-2009, 09:57 PM | #9 | Member Join Date: Aug 2009 Location: New Orleans Posts: 68 | Thats awesome man, I'm actualy in Baton Rouge now for school but it's a good place. But for the car, I don't think the frame is bent. That would be hard for that to happen just b/c of the engine mount being broke(but who knows weird things can happen). I think you might bent the arm that comes off the motor and mounts to the mount. B/c when an engine mount is broke, upon acceleration the whole engine will twist and when you let off it will twist the other way bang into the other side of the mount and could cause it to bend. I know you're a little short on money but I would def recommend replacing both of them b/c the longer it is driven with one broken mount the more and more it messes the other one up and although the other one may look fine, if one side is sheared and bent chances are the other side is messed up. | | | 09-02-2009, 10:30 PM | #10 | Moderator Join Date: Mar 2007 Location: Maryland Posts: 3,220 | same symptoms here, especially when I turn right. The mounts looked exactly like my OEM ones and didn't have any manufacturing defects. FEBI is partners/owned/owns Bilstein in some form so their parts shouldn't be that bad quality. __________________ 2000 M5 -> 1996 318ti -> 1997 328i Instagram: ndrewchow YouTube: MINIzguy | | | 04-29-2014, 05:42 PM | #14 | Member Join Date: Apr 2013 Location: Pittsburgh, Pa Posts: 37 | Thanks guys. Appreciate the help. I know what I'm doing this weekend. It will be a nice Father-daughter project along with an oil change and swap the trannny mounts as well. | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
