Default transmission light!

what up gangstas....quick little story here...

so i was driving my boy home and i was parked in front of his house for a while...we had an interesting conversation about his girl troubles and such so we were sitting there idling a while...maybe 20 minutes or so...

and i notice the orange light with the gear and a ! int he middle...i say..hey what the F-bomb is that...lets peep the owners manual and it is the light for transmission control module/transmission...no good

i drive the car 100 yards down the street to see if shifting out of park and driving somewhere does anything...still on, though seeming to drive normal

i turn the car off...wait about 20 seconds...crank it up, and its off and driving normal

so question is...could this possibly indicate a real problem here...i feel like if there was a real big problem, the light wouldnt just go off by re cranking the car.

anyway...i guess ill have to wait longer to see if it comes on again though...

oh well, maybe now i have an excuse for that transmission swap

If its an automatic transmission that light is no good. Mine has started to come on and when scanned it indicated that the transmission is slipping.

If it's as hot in NC as it's been here lately and you were just sitting there idling I would suspect that it got too hot. Take it to Advance Auto Parts or Autozone and have them pull the code. You might want to change the fluid just to be safe.

i have a scanner, so i will can the car and see if there is a code.

that is what my dad said, that idling so long could cause it to get too hot since their isnt much air flow to cool it off...as it is very hot here...hopefully this was just a 1 time thing...

Tranny codes won't show up with a Peake Tool. The auto tranny uses a seperate computer.

I found out that the light comes on whenever your fluid level is low or not enough oil pressure.
