Default Engine Oil Flushes Flushing Opinions

Hi Chaps,

What's your views on flushing the engine (ex: wynns oil/engine flush)?

I have heard mixed opinions on this subject so thought it would be a good idea to post.

i have 2 cans of flush but want to hear others opinions first.

If the car has been properly maintained then it's probably not necessary. That being said, I used a can of seafoam on my ti when I first got it. Nothing overly amazing happened, the oil looked just like it always does after a change.

I have been known to use Rislone engine treatment on older engines (with un-known service history).

I remove and replace the oil filter, then add the quart of Rislone. Drive it for a day or two (to get things good and hot) and dump the oil. It makes a world of difference to the cleanliness of the engine internals.

It says you can just add this at oil change time, but I don't like to run it the full 3K miles; just long enough to heat up the engine and clean the gunk out. Nasty-a$$ engines will need a couple treatments.

i have pruchased some wynss engine flush. i was thinking change old oil/filter.

add new cheap crap with a can of the flush.

run for 20 minutes.

drain and replace oil/filter with the good stuff.

I was/am apprehensive about this so contacted wynns a day or 2 ago. They have advised me to add the flush to the oil. run fast idle to 1000-2,000 rpm for 10 mins. shut off. drain oil. fill with new.

May/May not do this. They advise it should be fine so i'd have something to come back on in the event of a piss up.

From what i have read it basically dislodges, cleans all the crap out and burns it off rather than letting it flow out, hence a high petroleum content.

This is an initial clean pretty much as i plan to do the Dusten ATF/Oil Flush Procedure at the next oil change.

Old school proven method:

Drain oil, replace oil filter, fill engine with 4 quarts ATF fluid, one quart motor oil. Start the car, let it run/idle until it's up to operating temperature. DON'T REV it up! The ATF provides very little lube, so you don't want to put ANY strain on the car at all. Once it's up to operating temp (the temp indicator is in the middle), drain the fluid and change the oil filter (again). When you drain it, you will see the SLUDGE come out of the motor, maybe even some chunks of crap. Refill with your favorite oil (Mobile 1) and you're done.

I did this procedure twice, just to get everything out. The engine revs faster and is much smoother.
