Found some good deals on 95 models but was wondering if its best or if there is a huge performance difference with the later models with the 1.9L engine vs the 1.8?? I figure the few thousand I can save on a 95 I can use to fix her up anyways. Would appreciate any feedback. The real issue for me is I live in the mountains so something with a little more power is always fun. I have been doing some research and reading throughout this forum but I figured I would throw up a post and await some feedback. | | | 02-03-2010, 09:26 PM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Jan 2009 Location: Columbia MD Posts: 215 | The difference in performance between the M42 (95 model) and M44 (96 and later model) is negligible. The M44 is rated at a couple more hp, but it's little enough that you wouldn't notice. __________________ *Except 318ti '97 318ti M-Sport '95 M3 BMWCCA | | | 02-03-2010, 11:46 PM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2006 Location: Westfield, IN Posts: 1,335 | Quote: Originally Posted by MPWR The difference in performance between the M42 (95 model) and M44 (96 and later model) is negligible. The M42 has 138hp@6000rpm 129ft.lbs@4500rpm. The M44 has 138hp@6000rpm 133ft.lbs@4300, that is the difference between the two engines. __________________ Greg M42 Club member 186 WTB: HELLROT RED CLUB SPORT 95 ti sold but staying in the family. | | | 02-03-2010, 11:56 PM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2007 Location: Elizabeth City, NC Posts: 3,877 | Go for the M42, you can get more power out of it with simple bolt ons than you can from a M44. __________________ ~Dave~ 98 328ti Morea Grun slicktop 11 128i space gray slicktop 13 JGC WK2 Deep Cherry Search | RealOEM | | | 02-04-2010, 02:05 AM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2007 Location: LA, Bellflower, CA Posts: 3,613 | yeah, the M42 is easier to gain hp than the M44. simple things like chip and exhaust can add more than if it were the m44. plus m44 is more complicated for emissions if your state is strict. __________________ -Theta Chi- Float like a cadilac, sting like a BIMMER .... my socket is just too thick and won't fit in the hole! damnit! The M42 uses a forged crank and the M44 uses a cast crank. I'm sure the forged/denser metal generating more inertia explains why the M42 is known for having better high RPM characteristics. __________________ McLaren F1 - BMW M Power S70/2 | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
