Drive flange came out of diff - Huh?? Daughter came home the other day complaining about a grinding noise when her '96 ti is cold. I drove it, and sure enough, when it was cold there were horrible grinding noises coming from somewhere under the car. Once it warmed up, noise stopped. This morning I brought it into the garage, set it up on stands, and starting looking around for something, anything. Then I saw it - the passenger side drive flange had come out of the differential, enough that the splines were not engaging. I dead blow hammered it back in and it seems fine now. No apparent loss of fluid. The LSD came in handy - she/I did not get stranded. Sound familiar to anyone? Should I be concerned about it happening again? Last time the flange was out was to replace the oil seal (Aug 2005). Car has 149,xxx on it. __________________ Ernie Peters 1996 318 ti Arctic Silver 5spd, 2000 Z3 2.3 Steel Grey 5 spd, 2004 X3 2.5 Black auto, 1992 Volvo 240 Red auto, 1988 Mustang LX 5.0 Scarlet Red Hatchback 5 spd, 1956 Chevy 150 454/TH400 Black hot rod |
