"OEM Industrial" brand, oil filter "B" cap wrench. I think I picked mine up at Advance, but I've seen them elsewhere. NAPA might carry something, Sears as well. Other options are to get them from a Benz or VW dealer. __________________ I scream, you scream, we all scream for ZOMBIES. | | | 06-19-2007, 01:48 AM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2007 Location: back in PA Posts: 204 | Winner is Autozone. All-metal which is key, IMO. My old plastic auto part store wrench was terrible. I think it was <$10 at a Benz dealer. Ask me which one I bought first) for $3.98. __________________ 1998 Hellrot sport 318ti 2005 Jet Black 545i SMG 2006 Honda Odyssey (for kids and wives) | | | 08-04-2007, 07:25 PM | #8 | Junior Member Join Date: Aug 2007 Location: Beaverton, Oregon Posts: 8 | Decent oil filter wrench? My thanks to CirrusSR22. My last oil change had been done at a dealer, and the plastic cap was screwed down TIGHT! I purchased a Type B cup style oil filter wrench at Autozone (76mm - 14 flute), but my 3/8" socket stripped the center square into a round one. When the wrench cap is placed on the filter top there is not enough room for the 3/8" head to stick through. Having destroyed that one, the local Mercedes dealership had a 103 589 0209 00 in stock. At $32 it was expensive (compared to the $5 one from Autozone), but worth it because it did in 3 minutes what the other failed at. A nice feature on the Mercedes tool, there are 2 set screw/bolts that can fit into the sides of the cup to increase its grip, and they also fit into two holes in the top of the cup. If the cup gets wedged onto the filter top, you can use the screw/bolt on top to separate the two. | | | 08-05-2007, 01:57 AM | #9 | TRETEN IRGENDEINES ESELS Join Date: Aug 2004 Location: Rhode Island Posts: 3,687 | I came to realize the ones from autozone or advanced autoparts did not work on mine. They were not deep enpough so i bought one from bavauto.com and it fit perfect. __________________ 98 Avus Blue 318 ti Active clear outs all around, stealth turning signals, blue led interior lights, 35% tinted windows,K&N air filter, 12" Kenwood Sub, MTX Thunder Amp,Alpine cd changer, Leatherz Armrest,ACS Pedals/Handbrake/FloorMats & Vitesse Tuning Carbon Fiber B-Pillars/CF Spark Plug Cover, New 16" MSW Typer 14 Rims on Goodyear Triple Treds www.myspace.com/avusblueti | | | 08-07-2007, 01:40 AM | #10 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2004 Location: Minneapolis Posts: 1,587 | Quote: Originally Posted by Elliot66502 A nice feature on the Mercedes tool, there are 2 set screw/bolts that can fit into the sides of the cup to increase its grip, and they also fit into two holes in the top of the cup. I'm certain mine was under $10 at a Benz dealer. | | | 09-14-2007, 09:32 PM | #11 | Member Join Date: Nov 2005 Location: Seattle, WA Posts: 33 | Soon after I bought my car (in 1996), I ordered an oil filter wrench through a SnapOn rep. I'm sure they have Hazet ones. | | | 09-15-2007, 12:37 AM | #13 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2004 Location: Manassas, VA Posts: 4,129 | How inspiring, you used your military discount to buy a communist made part Quote: Originally Posted by elfhearse Winner is Autozone.
